13th Annual Snowkite Event

What is the longest running (and most fun!) snowkite event in the western United States? The answer is the Montana Snowkite Rodeo! This winter will be the 13th annual Rodeo, February 12th – 15th ,2016. Based out of the Lodge at Jackson Hot Springs in the Big Hole Valley, this event has become a staple rendezvous for kiters from around the Pacific Northwest, the Rockies and beyond.

Every year kiters converge at the Lodge for a long weekend of kiting, partying and soaking in the natural hot springs. The participants range from beginners getting their first taste of the magic of snowkiting to experienced aerialists flying high above the hills. This event always fills the lodge and nearby motels with an overflow of kiters. A hand-full of us also camp out around the area in tents, pick-ups, and RVs. Those who have them, bring snowmobiles to provide tow-ins to some of the deeper, more remote kite spots. The Rodeo is a unique gathering of the snowkite tribe and is an event not to be missed!

The event is super-chill with a daily routine of free ridin’, freestylin’ and free flyin’ at one of the many kite spots we visit in the Big Hole. Between kiting on many square miles of public land or the gracious ranchers who welcome all to their vast mountains, the Rodeo is a spectacular event in a stunning setting.

Because the event overlaps Valentine’s Day, rooms at the Lodge are already filling up. As of today, eight rooms are left. Nearby motels in Wisdom, 18 miles away, are also in demand. So, if you want to get a room: Book today!

Here are a few phone numbers. Get your lodging secured ASAP!

Really want to get up to this. Seems like every year something gets in the way. The Montana kiting crowd are an awesome bunch of folk, though (as a former Montanan, I may be somewhat prejudiced).
