What do you guys use? Wind Alert app or website, Google Earth,? Any one know of any good wind kmz/kml files to plug into Google Earth?

Home weather stations/wind meters?Hand held Anemometers?

A cool wind animation. http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orth...

What do you use and what do you prefer or think is best?

A wet thumb and which way the last of my hair is blowing. Or accuweather.

I check current conditions by trees and flags. The only reason I check weather on an app is to see if the wind will gain or wain in strength to know if it's worth a session. I use windfinder but I haven't found any that are useful above and beyond getting a sense for what wind will be like for the day.

windshark.com is one of my favorites.

National weather service, data from nearby weather stations/airports, webcams and www.windyty.com .

I generally use windfinder or windguru.
For real time I check the weatherlink stations on my local spots

I use WeatherFlow/Iwindsurf/WindAlert because the reports are from local wind sensors rather than a distant location. Winds in my area very considerably from locations just 10 miles away. Too many wind sources tend to take forecasts for a general area and assign them to more localized spots that have micro climates when it comes to wind.

I generally show up at said location with every available kite size I own and wing it. Sometimes I get skunked, but most times I don't.

IFlyKites - 21-11-2015 at 09:23 PM

I usually use a combination of myforecast, Weather network, and windyty. Like Cheddar said, it is always ideal to bring several kite sizes just in case. That way if the wind changes, you still have something to fly. I have had plenty of those days.

I usually look at windguru and windfinder to plan ahead but look at the local weather station reports in the WunderMap on Weather Underground site on the day I go out. Never 100% but usually let you know if you will get skunked.

NOAA is the only one that resembles accurate for me. It's interpolated for a specific location instead of a nearby city. Direction, speed, and gusts all on an hourly graph.
