Bindings

volock - 10-12-2015 at 09:59 PM

I tore and need to come up with a permanent replacement for my mountain board bindings... I really liked the comfort and fit, but am upset with life on my MBS F4 Bindings my board came with. They still look new and are in great condition, but tore where the mounting nuts are integrated into them...

Anyway, I need to buy new bindings. I stole an old windsurfing binding for now , while I figure out my permanent replacement. So what's everyone's favorite binding (and why)? I most likely will just end up buying new F4/F5 bindings, but am willing to try something else, or throw snowboard bindings (backs removed) on it... Just trying to see what others use.

Why the preference for velcro over ratchet? I'm just curious, you're far better at it than I ever hope to be, and I don't really do board off tricks...

ratchet junk rust and break , talon ratchets would slip and jump arund ,,, some are better the trampa seem ok.

the roots by GI had ultra widestrap velcro . all time favs,

i have a set of MBS ratchet have yet to mount on anything they seem ample. the newer thick molded like MBS/ trampa are much better.

the wide had fabric tops and generally a bad sign for longterm use , though they are webbing based and ideal they too have weak points

anything with fabric decoration crap is crap . simple and hard

talons heavily supported

compare trampa / talons

Thanks Phree. Appreciate the input and visuals... My riding conditions are so different than most (removing the salt/wet equation) I forget about the wear and tear that stuff takes sometimes. I think for the time being I may stick with my wide strap velcro ones pulled from the windsurf board, and see if I can adjust. I miss the easier tightening down (the two shoes I often ride in are drastically different sizes). I'll dig out a pic of the broken ratchet binding I have... It's so clean/without wear looking, it's what's bothering me.

heres a look at some roots bindings on flight 93 and again comparo with seriously hurting talons on the overclocked patrol 106

some weight drop with the 93 as well , fun little board , it broke as well. very much same feel as the trampa i have now when the 93 was fresh.

I still rock f2s (can you even buy those anymore?). The only times I've had to touch them were when I got the board and used different shoes. Not the prettiest, but they're light and got the job done.

MBS has new F5 bindings that came out recently, no idea if they're any better.

I've broken to left ladder straps on my F4 bindings. Just ordered two replacement pairs so my board will be functional again and so I'll have a spare. I might want to look into the scrub bindings carltb suggested though since anything good enough for him is good enough for me.
