Snowkiting Christmas Weekend (NM/S. CO)

volock - 22-12-2015 at 06:30 PM

Looking to get out X-Mas weekend for a day trip... Anyone know of anywhere in southern Colorado that currently has good snow? Currently it's likely I'm going to hit Brazos Pass or Valles Caldera in New Mexico, but if there's somewhere in the southern part of Colorado, I'd not mind the bit of extra drive. Snow storm coming through looks like it should mean powder!

Must be nice to even be thinking about snow. We are getting ready to break high temp records of all time. Thursday it is supposed to be 78 degrees maybe higher here. Almost 40 degrees separate from normal!

Hope you get out!

I've got to say I've been really thinking about you East Coasters a lot as of late. What an incredibly sucky winter you are having so far. I grew up in Vermont and know only too well how much of an economic engine winter and snow is for so many people out that way.

I've been particularly concerned for Chris from Hardwater as his actual livelihood is tied to ice forming on the lakes of New Hampshire. For so many of us this is just a fun hobby, but not him. If you are reading this Chris know I'm pulling for you!

@Volock - I don't know the So. CO geography well enough to point you in the right direction but I suspect they have gotten spanked in these past days as we have here in the Wasatch. We are measuring snow totals in the feet around here from this week so I suspect So.Co will be pretty well blanketed. Good luck getting your Snowkite stoke on!

Thanks to both of you. Wind and snow looks good so I'll definitely get out somewhere. I don't know the S. Co area for kiting well, only for hiking or insane length mountain bike races. I'll probably just stick to my usual and enjoy the first day of my snow season, since I missed the other storm we got (which quickly melted) due to work.

Heading to Brazos for a day trip Sunday. If anyone in the NM/CO/UT area wants to join feel free. It seemed the best chances of snow and wind, without insane gusts or possible disappointment (along with only a 3 hour drive vs 6 to places in CO that seem to have the best current conditions)
