Week 2 of the Hardwater Kiting GSR results are up!

Guy Lebrun of Quebec has taken first place again with a top speed of 67.73 mph, narrowly missing the coveted 70mph mark but still, very close and clearly dominating the ranking at the moment.

Well done Guy!

And Cheddarhead bagged his personal best on his first session of the season. RIGHT ON!!!

This ranking is open to all and anyone with a GPS who wants to see how they fair against others or just to challenge themselves is welcome and encouraged to participate.

Week 3 submissions must be in by Jan. 22nd.

So how come we never see any videos of these speed runs? Is this just a sort of hey harwaterkiting I did 100mph om my skis yesterday , heres my gps from the car,,, put me in the ranking sort of thing? hilarious!!

What are you talking about? This speed ranking is no different than popeye the welder's kite buggy speed ranking or the speed rankings in Australia. If you want to cheat than cheat. Everyone else will enjoy having the opportunity to compete with others globally.

Personally, I think it's great that he takes the time to put it together so people have an opportunity to compete with others regardless of their location or country. I could be wrong, but I think most kiters on here and abroad would feel like they are cheating themselves by putting a bogus speed up.

Honestly I think its silly to set up a worldwide speed competition without any standards for verification, I think its just intended to promote the organizers of the contest and not the contestants . I don't think any serious kiter will take these results with a grain of salt. Hey ssayre why do u always feel obligated to respond to anything I post to Feyd . I know this is hard for you but You really don't have to respond to my every post since its not directed to u.. :thumbup:

Well, that's not quite right. For one thing, we aren't on buggies.

Windrider, as anyone who has participated in this exhibition/competition will tell you, while participating it is usually pretty hard to get footage. Maybe people are willing to stand around in the warm air and shoot footage of you poking around on whatever you ride but in the winter and in conditions that are optimal for speed sessions like Guy's it is hard to find anyone to hang around and watch while the windchill sucks the heat out of them.

We checked guy's tracks through a third party data scrub. We found a few spikes but the data from both GPS units confirms his speed to our satisfaction. His data was good and the course of his track have the familiar pathways we see often in high speed snow kite runs. His environmental conditions were optimal for the session and there is no reason remotely to believe he has been deceptive in anyway. Ive attached a shot of his actual GPS tracks.

Guy is fast, and a hell of a kiter apparently and I'm psyched he's in our ranking this season. I can only hope we get conditions that allow me to go head to head at some point.

The GSR is a fun competition and helps push the envelope of both snow kiting and of individuals themselves. Anyone can participate windrider, even you. So grab a GPS and show us what you've got.

it could have been anyone that posts valuable content on a regular basis and I would have spoke up. It just happens to feyd this time and the last few times. Plus, in this case, there was nothing unusual about the way this speed ranking is held versus other commercial or non commercial rankings that I've seen.

As stated in the GSR rules, anything over 60mph requires the data files sent to us of no less than 2 GPS units. Phones are not accepted. We then take those files and scrub them through a 3rd party data scrub. So even my participation, and any data I submit for my own performance, can been reviewed and inspected on that site after I upload it.

Once Chris starts giving out powerball sized prizes for this, it might be time to raise the minimum standard of proof a notch. It's a great idea anyway, even for people like me who have never participated - it's interesting to compare the numbers to my own.

As Racheal Miller , host of the original snowkite ranking started a little over a decade ago used to say, "use good kite karma". I don't know if anyone ever tried to cheat in the ranking then. We go over the tracks closely. We look at the fastest runs point by point. There are common indicators that show up in a speed run that you would be hard pressed to fabricate by any other means. Harder than would make worth while even if we did offer a huge prize.

Anything over 60 gets requires 2 data sources, both get inspected and then sent to KA72 for scrubbing. Anything over 70 we go to 3 data sources ideally but not everyone has 3 GPS units. I'm not sure why this would be considered sufficient verifying practice. It's relatively fast, efficient and impartial. Not to mention simple and puts everyone on the same playing field.

I sent a run on the phone today during the last 20 minutes of the session. I think it must be for week 4 now?

Too much snow to reach the real speeds but I guess I just want to put my name on a list. Didn't upload the data since apparently it's not required but if for some reason you analyze it, I am curious to know how "bad" phone GPS data really is.
