Jonnysoper - 1-3-2016 at 04:06 AM

Hi all is the peter lynn crossover bar the same as the ozone turbo bar and would it work ok on the little devil 4.5 kite thanks in advance

Looks like it, they work on pretty much any fb kite, don't forget you'll need a harness as well if you've haven't used a bar before.

I've got the harness but lost the bidding on ebay for the ozone turbo bar and I'm having trouble finding one so looks like I'll have to go for the cross over thanks for your reply

I just did a quick search and the Ozone is no longer available, either they have dropped it or a new one is in it's way.

I've seen they were discontinued but want a bar to get into boarding with the little devil would you use the bar with the blade I have a blade V 6.5 on its way but I did read somewhere that bars and blades dont really go well together is this true

I remember watching a BiG Mike review on Youboob about the Peter Lynn bar and he specifically states it's a good thing they came out with one "now that Ozone has stopped making the turbo bar" or something to that effect.

I've used a Turbo bar on my 8.5m Blade, the Blade V is more user friendly than the earlier models, you can use the AoA adjusters to make it quicker and less lifty. You can always put a strop across the handles and use that to hook-in with. It's really what works for you and how the kite takes to a bar, get to know the kite on handles first then when you try a bar you know what the difference is and can decide if that is what you want.
What ever you do DO NOT ASK THE QUESTION HANDLES OR BAR WHAT IS THE BEST? That is a very hot and much debated topic ;-)

Me... I like handles on fixed bridle kites :D

As Ozone basically gutted their FB lineup, the Ozone Turbo Bar quickly went from being a red-headed stepchild to fully disowned from the family.

So can I use any depower bar then

abkayak - 1-3-2016 at 07:09 AM

IMO...dont rush this along, lay off the purchase and fly handles...start your boarding w/ handles and get it all figured out
then your gonna go to a dp set up w/ a whole new set of questions
and no a dp bar wont work w/out major changes you shouldnt be doing

Ok thanks for the advice

Abkayak speaks good truths here. I tried to do exactly what you are thinking about last Spring, viz., trying to rig a poor man's DP setup with my FB kites (at the time a 4m Hornet and 4.5m Uniq Quad) using, you guessed it, a PL Crossover bar. I sold the bar downriver very shortly after purchasing it. The crossover bar, harness, and something to roll under you just works sort of crappy at best IMHO. My impression of the crossover bar is that it gave those particular FB kites a Frontal Lobotomy (stronger phrasing than simply de-tuning). For me it was very frustrating to try and learn to buggy as a beginner with that set up. At the time I was a beginning buggy rider on soccer fields with longish grass (read high resistance to rolling) and trying to learn with a crossover bar and FB kite just wasn't going well.

For me the big break through moment came when I started using a 12m Flysurfer Peak-2 in the buggy. This was in far lighter winds of course than what would have been necessary with the 4 meter kites. The big thing for me was to slow everything down so I could coordinate things all at once. Looking back it all seems sort of silly, but going forward at the time these were big steps for me.

Good luck - you're on your way!

Never mid the Flysurfer, I'm still trying to convince my wife I need "it" :D

abkayak - 1-3-2016 at 11:29 AM

yea...we all want one of those, i flew one this week and was blown away...but you dont need it
calm down and go to the local pound and get a puppy or kitten for the 2 of you...you need one of them even if you have
then set your site on a cheaper used dp you can trash before you take the step up to the Mclaren type kites
or disregard this and jepardize the marriage...either one
