soliver - 3-3-2016 at 05:59 AM

Hey Y'all,... I think we are by now officially in countdown mode...

59 days to go!!!!!

Who's coming? Who's excited?

Sunday to Sunday this year with all 4 kids and the dog!!!!

PHREERIDER - 3-3-2016 at 06:35 AM

yep, stoked ! already feels to be solid wind season coming.

Demoknight - 3-3-2016 at 01:09 PM

I am gathering little odds and ends to make my kiting experience as good as it can be this year. Got better components for my QR D-spreader setup, new strop line in the mail, ordering tubes for my tires, and getting materials for putting my comp XR+ back together as a tandem rig trailer. This is going to be another one for the books!

jrhook - 3-3-2016 at 01:19 PM

Sunday thru Saturday...camping, kiting, smiling, laughing... oh, and a drink or 2...:D

Demoknight - 10-3-2016 at 09:25 PM

Only about a month and a half to go guys...

soliver - 10-3-2016 at 10:01 PM

Getting jazzed guys... Whoop whoop!!!

soliver - 12-3-2016 at 05:00 PM

Looks like 49 days left.

My littlest one broke her leg a few days ago, (toddlers and trampolines keep pediatric orthopedics in business y'all)... but it's minor enough that she'll be out of the cast in 4 weeks so no casts for the beach... Phew!

See you guys soon!!!

Sorry to hear about the accident Spencer. Glad it wasn't more serious.

3shot - 13-3-2016 at 06:41 AM

Oh no. Poor thing. Hope she fells better soon.

soliver - 13-3-2016 at 03:39 PM

Nothing more than a pitiful sight,... she is totally fine. The docs assured wifey that this sort of thing is very common with little ones, and they heal very quickly too. It is a very minor minuscule hairline fracture just below her left knee. She got bounced on the trampoline by her big sister and came down wrong. They only casted her to keep the leg strait. Should heal in 3-4 weeks. She scoots around on her backside and looks pretty funny.

Demoknight - 16-3-2016 at 08:22 AM

Spence sorry to hear about the little one having a spill. At least when they are still that size they still bounce. I just had my first taste of my age beginning to catch up to me. Last week I was bending over to pick up an EMPTY cardboard box and had intense pain in my leg. I could walk and my girlfriend had to pick me up from work in a wheelchair. Doc says I just tweaked it and I feel no pain now, but I'll be ginger on it up until JIBE. If I get hurt it is going to be flying kites, not picking up air, dammit!

Speaking of which, can we please get more hyped for this? Barely more than a month away from that amazing beach and joinging all you stinky old men to play with kites. I can't wait!

PHREERIDER - 16-3-2016 at 08:37 AM

glad the little lady is gonna bounce right back to action.

the only stink free air is upwind!...indicators are solid for stink free situation

I KNOW!... I started this post thinking we'd all get jazzed and stuff like years past and it has been rather HUM DRUM.

GET EXCITED Y'ALL... JIBE'S A COMIN'

Thanks for the kind words for my little one gang... she has barely been phased,... I caught her after having climbed onto a chair to mess with paints on the table, broken leg and all... she is just fine.

markite - 16-3-2016 at 04:00 PM

With Wildwood on last week I didn't want to dilute the stoke for that event - but now that's it's over and they all had a great time I can't wait until JIBE!! WOOHOO!!
So many things to get done and it's going to be a busy month so hopefully time will fly by. Yes Errol that bending over to do something small and throwing your back out is very common - as well as just a sneeze for some people. Get used to it :-)

Thumbs UP on the cookout as well as many other social events.

One of the things I was thinking of was can we start an annual JIBE Masters - a mini golf tourney one morning before the wind is up. Talk to the mini golf place and say hey can we get a good group rate if we have 20 people come over for one round as a fun tournament - get a green jacket from the Goodwill store and draw a logo on it with gold pen, I'm sure i could make up a trophy out of parts from trophies at the goodwill as well. Maybe hit up a few local places to see if they would kick in a coupon or something to the prize pool (red bug pizza, the ice cream place? something to promote local business etc) Just an idea for that bourgeois JIBE crowd.

And it'll really jack our enthusiasm when we see Jason's yet to be released video!

3shot - 16-3-2016 at 04:25 PM

I know man. People couldn't hardly eat from me jamming the gopro in their face lol. I should be ashamed for not getting the cook out footage compiled. I should probably be put on beach restriction on day one? Lol.
I can't wait for that sweet Jekyll air. It fills the whole island. I can't think of those flowering trees, but its everywhere. Good times will certainly be had. Hope I can keep my fingers intact for this event. It really sucked last year not being able to crank out descent power slides. Who else is ready for cooling down with an ice cold beverage and splashing through those tide pools???

soliver - 16-3-2016 at 09:32 PM

That's the way to crank up the hype!!!

I'm excited FO SHO!!!!!

3shot - 17-3-2016 at 04:42 AM

Two words..

Hard pack!!!!!

Demoknight - 17-3-2016 at 08:13 AM

I am hoping to break out more fixed bridle action this year. I am down to only two FB kites, the 5.5m and 8.6m Reactor, but those are right in the perfect wind range for Jekyll I think. Last year the 3.5 wasn't quite enough fun for me in the buggy, but I never even bothered with the 5.5. I think I need to show it some love soon before it starts to feel neglected. I can't wait to cruise the full 7+ miles from the South water tower to the northern tip of the island(if wind direction allows).

3shot - 18-3-2016 at 08:38 AM

Is pokite coming with the kitefort again this year? Frank? Angus?

frankiter - 18-3-2016 at 09:36 AM

Pokite, kitefort, and Frank? Yes, yes, and yes! And I'm sure Angus wouldn't miss a JIBE!

But the buggy security detail may be in danger. I think this year there is a question about whether or not the kitefort will be allowed to overnight at Great Dunes Park. I think Chris and Angus are working on that.

3shot - 18-3-2016 at 10:40 AM

Awesome!! I know Angus wouldn't miss it. Didn't know about the camper. Been kinda quiet in the jibe forum.

markite - 18-3-2016 at 08:23 PM

Okay here's a teaser. It's the same footage I posted of a run from the north tip down to kite camp but now I've added a continuation down to the south tower, changed a couple of things and put together a ride from North to South and Inbetween

Demoknight - 19-3-2016 at 11:24 AM

I am ready for my cameo :P

3shot - 19-3-2016 at 05:11 PM

Most excellent! Can't wait to roll on that beach with you guys!!

markite - 19-3-2016 at 05:30 PM

watching that video again I realized even with going slower around driftwood it's a much longer ride from the north down to kite camp. The wind was nice on that monday and from kite camp down to the south tower only took 3 1/2 min on that faster run. That monday was a good east wind with a touch or N. When Errol and I were rounding the tip and getting closer to the pier it was NE and even getting more NNE as sandmageddon hit.
Can't wait to get on the beach and see everyone - last one there buys a round!

soliver - 19-3-2016 at 05:36 PM

2014: https://vimeo.com/96278275 (forgive me the music I had no idea that song would turn into the smash hit it did and be WAY overplayed)

2015: https://vimeo.com/128325771 (a little family time on Saint Simons thrown in)

2016: CAN'T WAIT!!!

ssayre - 19-3-2016 at 05:38 PM

dang, Mark nice video. it's hard not to get excited when watching that if you like kite buggy. Thanks for putting that together.

soliver - 19-3-2016 at 05:48 PM

You still planning to be there Sean?... That'd be sweeeeet!

TEDWESLEY - 19-3-2016 at 06:45 PM

Golly! A guy goes away for a few days and the excitement begins. I know that the ladies have been working on some aspects of the
upcoming kitagansa. We are beginning the preparations even now.

We hope the leg heals and all is well!

I'm willing to call it one month if you are....

3shot - 20-3-2016 at 06:37 AM

Yup. We went to the kennel yesterday to make sure all is well with our doggies that week. JIBE is finally in the headlights!

soliver - 23-3-2016 at 07:14 PM

Just 4 and a half weeks to go!

:o I peed in my pants a little I'm so excited.

3shot - 24-3-2016 at 03:05 PM

Ssayre, please try to make it dude!!!

Laying in my bed last night literally grinning ear to ear. Just thinking about that beach with my VTT and Peak all over it...:cool::D:thumbup:

Demoknight - 30-3-2016 at 02:48 PM

I had a dream the other night about JIBE. When I woke up it made me laugh, because it reminded me of last year when I was driving home from JIBE. After spending a week in the buggy and kiting up and past driftwood beach and on to the Northern tip of the island several times, I had developed some serious kite and buggy handling skills. When I was driving home from JIBE, every time I passed a tree that was close to the road, or went under a bridge, or saw power lines, I had to fight the urge to steer a kite under/over/around it while I was driving my truck! My head was still so full of kiting that I was feeling my hands want to pull a bar to swing a kite around to keep the lines tight when I had to make a downwind turn. It was so funny, but made me miss it before I even got all the way off the island.

Cheeks - 31-3-2016 at 07:39 AM

I'm in for the "Masters" mini golf tournament! Sounds like great fun.

We're there, on vacation, and Jekyll has so much to do. Ever been to the water park? Looked for the old open air theater in the forest, visited the museum, rented a bicycle for a ride on the trails, road a horse or been fishing from the GREAT pier. All you need is there in the bait shop.

Part of the deal with J.I.A. is that because they allow us to have the event is that we are supposed to give a bump to the local island business's. I'm not sure what our economic impact is but we should support the locals.

I've always had a great time at every JIBE and can't wait for this years trip.

When are the low tides this year?

jrhook - 31-3-2016 at 02:17 PM

Great vids Soliver! Makes me long for those days when my girls were that age. Take tons of pics and vids because they grow up so damn fast:( I'll just have to kite more often now to try to get over missing them so much:D

3shot - 31-3-2016 at 02:50 PM

Hey Davis. Ted posted the tides right after JIBE last year. Its a few threads down.

Cheeks - 31-3-2016 at 06:22 PM

Always impressed with how much gear you fit in that van Scott. I need some lessons. Man its almost here!!!!

Cheeks - 11-4-2016 at 08:08 AM

Are there any of our ladies interested in a "Kite Widow" t-shirt this year?

Last year we did a pink shirt for them.
Any color suggestions for a new color this year ladies?

This years design is almost done and looking awesome.

Any shirt color suggestions from you men?

TEDWESLEY - 11-4-2016 at 09:09 AM

Holly can't wait for a new tee, color doesn't seem to be a problem! I would think that lighter colors would be best. I'm surprised that she hasn't worn the two that she has into shreds. Put us down for at least two widow makers.
A small mountain is beginning to accumulate in the hall with all of the stuff we NEED to bring. We'll be there for two weeks as usual
again 4/30-5/14 got to get all the riding we can! Our local beach riding will be finished by the time we return to Maine.
I retired this month. Free at last!
We can't wait to see you all. Let the good times ROLL
THREE WEEKS!

soliver - 11-4-2016 at 09:16 AM

Congratulations Ted on you being retarded.
Now you can have all the fun you can afford.

Can we get a diff. on this years tides? I'm confused:(

Light colors for the ladies. My Wife says she has a new color in mind.

O.K. dudes what's your color preferences?

flyguy0101 - 11-4-2016 at 11:38 AM

davis - the tides jim posted are correct - it is best to use the st simon lighthouse since it is "parallel" with the Jekyll beach where as the marina is about an hr later
hope that helps

scott

3shot - 11-4-2016 at 12:52 PM

Sounds good Davis. Put us down for 1XL kite widowT. 1XXL regular design, and two small regular designs for the kiddos. Much thanks!

Cheeks - 11-4-2016 at 06:31 PM

The wifey just announced the new color for the gals. Candy orange.
It's like what a Dreamcicle looks like.
Soft and sweet like our Kite Widows.:spin:

Thanks for the pre order 3 shot. It helps me determine the total count.
Gettin excited!

J-E-K-Y-L-L bound.

frankiter - 12-4-2016 at 09:04 AM

Hey Davis, one XL regular design for me please.

Demoknight - 12-4-2016 at 09:44 AM

Davis, how about Light Blue with Navy silk screen for the Widows' shirts and Navy Blue with Grey silk screen for the others?

so yes JimSSI posted correct tides , best of my knowledge

3shot - 13-4-2016 at 04:19 PM

Checked all buggy bearings today. Systems go!

Cheeks - 13-4-2016 at 04:53 PM

Sorry about the old tides. Glade someone got it right. Easier to plan with.

Has anyone figured out the day and time for the Pot Luck?

I need some feedback from you fellows. I've been debating what color to offer for this years event shirt and I had a light blub moment....

With safety in mind....

I'm thinking about high visibility colors!

Safety colors are... safety Yellow, safety Orange, safety Pink and Neon Green.

I'll still print the crest print on the front side and a full back print. Black ink is best on any of these colors.

So what do you all think?

3shot - 14-4-2016 at 05:54 AM

I like the casual colors Davis. Stuff you can wear around town. Thats just me though. I'm game for whatever.

markite - 14-4-2016 at 04:56 PM

Colour is always going to be personal preference but ther is one major kite festival I attend every year that is predominately a show of single line kites and stunt kite demos and there is a side buggy event. Part of the registration gets an event t-shirt which doesn't usually have anything to do with the buggies etc, just the event logo. But in the years that the have been the bright flourescent colours (yellow, green, orange) they had overall gone over better with the single line and stunt fliers and less with the buggy crowd.
For some reason the regular fest participants would wear tie dye, self made and flamboyant clothing - all part of the show and embraced by all but outside the event the buggy gang would say it wasn't really their colour.
Really glad you got a design together - I still haven't seen daylight in several weeks of solid work and I owe favours and really looking forward to getting away and down to see the JIBE family and friends soon. Fiona is here so maybe next week I'll get her to start organizing and cleaning my buggy :-)

dangerdan - 14-4-2016 at 06:19 PM

Hey Mark is this a local event ?
If it is local when and where

Colour is always going to be personal preference but there is one major kite festival I attend every year that is predominately a show of single line kites and stunt kite demos and there is a side buggy event.

markite - 14-4-2016 at 06:27 PM

That particular fest is one of the closest BIG kite festivals but still a 13 hr drive to St Honore Quebec ... And JIBE is a bit further:D

Cheeks - 14-4-2016 at 07:11 PM

Casual colors it is gentlemen.
We are "Buggy Pilots" and we are cool as well as casual.
Tie dyes are for "Hippies" and us "Baby Boomers", what few of us that are left like Ted and me.
Safety colors are for single line kiters, government workers and "Red Necks".
And camo is for "Red Necks" only!
Casual colors it is.

soliver - 16-4-2016 at 07:47 PM

PHREERIDER - 18-4-2016 at 05:46 PM

well hell, lets take teaser tour to amp the stoke

https://vimeo.com/39422878

jrhook - 19-4-2016 at 01:43 AM

Consider me amped! I believe I'll be needing the stiffer set of shock blocks for the MBS board I'm bringing down... I'll start gps'ing speed this year and get a feel for when to switch out for more stability. The boosting may be some time off in the future yet, we'll see! Can't imagine my Apex providing that sort of float.

For fear of being duck taped up in bubble wrap and dragged behind someone's ride in a 25knot for even mentioning this, what are some favorite "no-wind" options that you all enjoy. I've seen some great SUP excursions up on SSI...

soliver - 19-4-2016 at 04:18 AM

SSI is a great spot just to go hang out too. Lots of great restaurants and shopping. There's also a great put-in to paddle one of the tidal creeks. If you put in at high tide it will take you around the north end of Saint Simons and you can even walk the southern tip of Sea Island. I've done it before in my small 1 man canoe, but as you know it's better in a kayak. There is a kayak tour and rental place (called Souther Outfitters I believe) near the pier. Email me Scott if you want if you have questions. I've spent the second or third week of May on Saint Simons for the last 10 years!

In the AM....SUP/kayak in front or backside is as good as it gets. Bike is an easy default just get things going. Longboard skate at great dunes/pavilion area effortless and ultra smooth, inline skate , walkabout

Hi tide will be in the early AM can be choppy/rolling . Low tide is ideal usually .
I enjoy various tow modalities and general self indulgent buffoonery

pokitetrash - 19-4-2016 at 10:22 AM

Me, Frank and the Kitefort will be there Sunday thru Sat. Camping at the campground each night. If the parking lot isn't too crowded, I'll be driving the Kitefort and parking it daily but won't be setting up and taking a bunch of space BUT the door will be open, AC running, so all are welcome to chill as usual.

See you SOON!

markite - 19-4-2016 at 06:00 PM

I'm going through my list of things to pack for JIBE and I'm bringing down a few spools of Q-Power line so I can make up a few different lines for myself while I'm there. If anyone needs some lengths of Q-Power (or line sets) let me know and we can run them out.
I'll bring down some 200lb test, 300 lb test and the 600lb Pro

Ask for Robbie - tell him Jim Weldy sent you - he'll charge you double.

Gould's Inlet is an outstanding paddle.

I have three 'yaks for loan - and be glad to lead an informal tour.

There's a great float when the tide is going out those mornings - East Beach Causeway - Postell Creek - Gould's Inlet. - Load out and beat feet to JI for low tide.

It's actually faster to paddle across the Sound to JI than to drive it - but the buggy needs its own boat...and you have to tow it. Damn thing won't paddle.

Today 4-6 kts.

No overnight parking/security this year. JIA turned down the request for the KiteFort to stay overnight so we will have to take our stuff with us each night.

I will try to get a parking spot early each day so folks can hang out at the Fort though.

Hey Davis

I'll probably buy t-shirts for buddies back home again this year - I'll get you some numbers and sizes, no telling who's gone up a size over the winter ;)

hopefully later this week I'll get a break to start organizing gear too.... a week and half!

I think everybody is going to like the shirt this year.
It's kind of a 70's throw back.

Balanced graphics and all the words plugged in all the right places.

A blue heather shirt with a frosted blue print on the crest and a full back print.

A celebration of the event on polyester and cotton.

Guys and gals,
Joan and I walked Jekyll yesterday. SE breaze and wide open beach at low tide. Margaritas and chips at Tortuga Jacks.

We are staying at Gritz Carlton cottage the week but I have to work Sunday night. I work mornings 5 am to two that week with Wednesday and Thursday off. Joan is packing and planning!

Angus are you going to actually ride this week? I saw you eyeballing the Weird Beard last year and you looked like you wanted to take it for a spin.

knkmannthey - 21-4-2016 at 12:03 PM

My honeymoon is in Alaska

acampbell - 21-4-2016 at 12:21 PM

Riding for sure. Will have my little Flexifoil scout but will like to try the Wierd Beard for sure

Yesterday's view south on Jekyll from in front of the restaurant. Note the Rainbow on a sunny day! Note the clear beach too.
