@Windstruck - Couldn't help but notice that you have the full quiver of Flysurfer peak 2's. Do you fly these often? The Peak 1 was a great kite and I was wondering if the Peak 2's have improved on performance? Namely the depower and turn ability.

Yup, big Peak2 fan I am. This at times becomes a bit of a touchy subject with a few folks on this forum. Few seem to have neutral opinions about them. I've never flown or even seen a Peak1 but in ultra-abbreviated summary to my understanding the Peak1 flapped a little more and had a more simple bar system with out clam cleat adjustment. Peak2 traded flapping for at-times irritating "tip-tuck" that at times can be tuned out of the kite and sometimes not so much. Flying it in a way specific to the kite seems to help. Peak2 bar, while heavier, seems to be generally (but not universally) preferred to the Peak1 bar. More size choices in the Peak2 line.

I own all four Peak2s and love each one. They were my go-to kites at IBX last month where the wind really danced around due to storm systems in the region. You can see three of them at play here:

If you really want the full dose of the Peak discussion there are pages and pages of delightful chatter here:

im a peak 1 fan. Unfortunately I'll be forced into a fancy bar sooner or later to get the remaining sizes, but I won't be happy about it :P

Thanks for the feedback Windstruck and I love the video looks like you guys had a great time at IBX.

BTW, at the end of the video it reads "Windstuck" as the rider, which made me kind of giggle, because I have had several days when I have been windstuck! ;p

FWIW, I switched from the Peak 1 to the Peak 2 and count it as a mistake. I loved the Peak 1 9m so I bought a 12m Peak 2 as an even LIGHTER wind kite. It was not (for me). The bar was better and trim was nice, but the simplicity and reliability of the first version made it a clear winner in my eyes. To each his own, but the Peak 1 is one of the few kites I regret selling.

There do seem to be a fair number of people who prefer the Peak1 to Peak2. Having never seen much less flown a P1 I really can't weigh in. I'm happy so many people like both of the kites. I suspect you could pick a 9m P1 back up on the cheap somewhere. Good luck!

This actually makes me really happy. I'm glad that there is good life left in the original Peaks and the NS2s for that matter. You go girls! :karate:

Steve I'm not knocking the p2 at all. You know I'm still dying to get the 12 and 4 at some point.

I know Sean. I actually meant what I said. It is refreshing to hear when folks really like their earlier tech after a company "improves" it in follow up generations. I just started a new thread on this in fact.... so thanks for the germ of the idea!

I'm interested in the Phantom 2 15m I'm into snow kiting and where I go seems to be plagued with low winds. Could you tell me some about the kite. I'm only familiar with foils and lei's.

ssayre - 15-4-2016 at 06:03 PM

I've not owned that kite but have owned a 13m venom. Arcs in that size are not sub 10 light wind weapons. My guess is you would need a minimum 12 mph with that kite on the low end. Someone else will correct me if I'm wrong.

TDFurr - 15-4-2016 at 06:59 PM

@anthonyshopguy, the Peter Lynn Phantom 15m is the same color as the Phantom 9m pictured above. The condition of the 15m is like new. I have used it in water and on land with a MBS mountain board. ssayre is correct, this kite will come alive in 12 mph wind, anything lower and it flies but won't move you around. I bought the Phantoms for there auto zenith and there easy self launch and landing. They turn faster than most foils something I had to get used to. If you would like more high definition pictures I would be glad to send them to you.
