Line lengh for a 5 mtr riot

dman - 17-4-2016 at 08:34 PM

I picked up Jeepersjoey's 5mtr riot at IBX and It needs some lines. I'm looking at the Q power lines that Kent sells at Wind of Change and I'm not sure what length to go with for this kite. It'll be used primarily at Ivanpah.

What do you guys think?

I've experimented with different length lines on my 5.5 Reactor. Started on 17.5m or 18m lines. Those really tamed it and made it direct and controllable. But in light wind it made it feel to restricted and the window to small. Tried 20's and they were much better. 25's really made that kite do well at the bottom of it's wind range which is where I use it. 30's were just too much. Made it feel like it constantly had slack lines and gave the kite a "wet noodle" feel. Totally unresponsive and a soggy feel. Kite is currently on 25's.

My 5m Octane has always been on 20m. Put some 5m extensions on it for 25 total and I'm on the fence about it. I like the 25's when flying it at the bottom of it's wind range; but I like the 20's better for flying it in normal winds.

Consider the wind range you will be flying your riot in. Normal winds or only when it's light?

For park and ride; I'd put 20m on it. For light wind when the kite has to be flown all over the sky; consider 25m.

I stay with 20m lines on all my stuff. Simple.

Amazon. Flexifoil. $49 is a great price! You can't find used for that!

Crap Paul. I just spent $100 on Q power lines. Oh well, I'll know next time.

I had one... Nice kite.

I think mine was on 23m ozone lines.

$100 is a solid price. Don't fret.

The $49 Flexifoil are entry level quality but still usable. I have used mine for a few years. Although frayed, they are still usable.
