They just don't make them like they used to. I bought this 17 years ago for $30. I've since bought 2 more 1979 models and an early 80's commercial
model. I think I have a lifetime supply but I will continue to buy them whenever I see them. My dad has a 1965 model that was his mother's that he
uses on a regular basis. You can't beet a 2 stroke with cast aluminum deck.
My kids have never known a mower with any type of safety release lever :D

About 1959 my dad helped me buy a Lawn Boy "Quite Flite". I had to pay him back with my lawn mowing business earnings.
I wanted that model because I could start early Sat. and Sunday mornings and stay ahead of the Kansas heat and I wouldn't wake up my clients! 102 in
the shade most days.
The motor was totally enclosed in a fiberglass shell. On the back side it had a dash board. On/off switch, choke pull, primer, and the rope pull
handle. It was a stunner all painted up in a gold metallic paint. Great decals. It looked like a small space craft of sorts. No noise, only sound it
made was a whirling sound and a clipping noise cutting the grass blades.
It mowed great, only had to sharpen the blade when needed and the machine lasted many years. I believe it saw it in the barn 1989 when I went home to
stay with my ailing dad for a year. Dad didn't mow grass, he had a herd of sheep the kept the grass numbed and fertilized at the same time.:D

Those 60's models are sweet. I'm not completely sure how to tell if it's a magnesium deck or aluminum but I've read they stamped magnesium on the top

we had an aluminum cast with classic crack on square shoot.
AND i loved the wind up starter on briggs, just because it was different. i had one for 3.5.
when i was five these are the toys i was swimming in!
and when i was all growed at 6 going to real school i got $3 for the front and $3 for the back! felt like the the lotto! and bought an old riding
mower for $25 by end of the summer ...man a pocket full of woodruff keys and there was fun to be had!

not sure on stamp indicators, i seem to remember the stamp on foot plate on rear.
any way, mag will react with vinegar (bubble) Al will not .

i have been using the same 99$ home depot special 3.5 B&S lawn mower for like 30yrs
replaced a few pull cords change the oil,spark plug now and then. keep air filter clean. gunk down the engine to keep cooling fins clean. sharpen
blade every season. hose it off after every use.

Scored my 4th old lawnboy. This one is my second 1979 but I found at a customers house in the depths of his garage so I had to rescue it. Cleaned
things up a little and it fired right up. This is also the same model I used growing up so I can't have too many. F series engine with aluminum
deck. My search for a magnesium deck model continues. Picture was taken at my customers. I don't have weeds in my yard. :D

The Lawn Boys were above the rest in design. Here's what my 1959 looked like.
The wheels were staggered with a knee action leading front left wheel that kept the cut
even over bumpy yards. No scalping.
I believe this one on E-bay is selling for more than what it cost new! Antiques!

Here's a story about lawnmower safety. in 1972, I was in 2nd grade and my dad wanted me to mow the lawn so he didn't have to. Well, I couldn't
push the mower through our thick st. Augustine grass, so he bought a TORO self propelled with electric start mower. it started with a key and the
wheels went on their own with the push of a lever. Needless to say, I was chosen for lawn mowing duty.
No safeties on this thing at all.
One fine hot Texas day, I was mowing and got stung by a wasp in the neck. Being a 2nd grader, I immediately ran inside the house screaming and
crying.
I forgot about the mower, it hopped the curb, and continued up the street some 4 or 5 houses until an alert neighbor noticed a lawnmower cruising up
the street. He intercepted and all was saved.
Unfortunately, this incident did not relieve me of my mowing duties. I had to join the Navy to get out of mowing the lawn some many years later.
