Small DP

Blitzhound - 5-5-2016 at 11:15 PM

So I'm looking for a small DP. Something I can teach my son on. After having gone through the progression of two line then four line FB then DP. I think to keep things simple we are going to start on DP and progress to FB. That may seem backwards to some. But after making the progression myself. They are two completely different animals and until I am comfortable with FB's we will learn DP's. Anyway. I'm looking for something between 3-6m DP. Like...say an ozone access or an HQ apex. Something along those lines. Entry level, small DP that can pull double duty as a beginner kite and a high wind kite. Also could use a harness most likely in an XS to fit a 26" waist. If you got any offerings please let me know. I also will be at SOBB. so if you're going to be there I'd love to meet face to face. May the winds be with you!

HQ RUSH 300 SCHOOL.
i flew apex iv 5.5 this winter, was awesome, missed a few days for high winds though..
can only static fly in summer. and in gusty winds the 5.5 kinda beat me up. not pure fun.
so i got the Rush SCHOOL. so easy to set up an break down, nice heavy duty colored bridle and line set.
full de-power bar with chicken loop. awesome left-right graphic on kite.
this kite fly's fine out of the box.
and the price cant be beat with a stick..
i love my little foil!

Blitz I'm selling an ikon micro, 4m depower foil. I'll probably be at sobb for 2 days. I can bring it with me if you're interested.

It's built very solid and I can imagine it will stake a beating. It's a fully functional depower not just a trainer but at my weight and for my uses the day where it will work for me are simply just to dangerous to Kite.

I don't have one but a 4.5m Gin Yeti comes to mind as well. They don't pop up all that often but if you're lucky you could catch a good deal on one.

PL cross over bar is also an option if you're on a budget. You could always use your FB kites for that and not have to worry about spending extra on a new kite! Although, I heard it doesn't work as good as a regular depower.

That not a bad idea. I don't know why but I never even considered that. Thanks IFlyKites

Crossover doesn't make your fb a depower. It does have the convienience of a safety but you will still won't have time to reach it IMO. Especially if you plan to use it on a small fb as a high wind set up.

What's your budget Blitz?

Windstruck - 20-5-2016 at 05:25 AM

I don't know where you'd find one on the used market, but a 4m Ozone Access V6 with the Re-Ride system would seem to be an optimal solution. Yes, I know they are expensive! :o Should you go that way you can't go wrong with getting a new one from Chris (feyd) at www.hardwater.com.

Blitzhound - 20-5-2016 at 07:50 AM

Yeah Windstruck. I really want the access with re-ride and honestly that's the direction I think I'm heading. This isn't necessarily intended to be a high wind kite. Although it is going to be expected to pull double duty as one. But for the most part it's intended to be a buggy engine for my son. He only weighs 110# and while he has flown my fixed bridles has never flown a depower. Something small and manageable. That in lighter wind days he could fly static and when the wind picks up jump in a buggy with it. I really like the safety of the re-ride and Ozone is definitely top quality. Maybe a 4-6m but you're right they are expensive. I'm gonna have to do some saving for that one. For now I'm just going to have to work with what I got. I was thinking of teaching him on my 10m Venom. Right now my budget is blown. I just spent it all on a second buggy. So a new kite purchase is gonna have to wait for now. But when I'm ready I think I've settled on getting an access. I'd be happy to buy it from Feyd.

That's true. Bridle modifications, (pulley system) would have to be made to make it act like a true depower. That probably wouldn't work with every kite either.

All sorts of red flags here: Regular price of $1500 for a 4m kite :o Makes the $599 sale price seem like such a deal! :duh:
The only other available option is 15m ?

Never heard of this kite? Looks super low aspect?

I like the crossover bar idea. Converting to depower will be much easier than from handles.
With my home made crossover bar I lost some bottom end due to the extra weight of the ( light ) pulleys and stuff. My 4.5 bullet just hated being on a crossover bar. Most of my other kites performed OK on it.
