(off topic) Take my money

WELDNGOD - 1-7-2016 at 04:21 PM

I have not been on my TRAMPA in over a year. The sand @ Va beach has too many soft spots(faceplant). So it has been collecting dust.... Now I know what I'm going to make next.

They fall short. No reason not to make it 4x4

That's cool!

I have been researching and they are bad a$$. But you have to get the good stuff from the git go. $x$ would need 2x the batteries and to get a decent range it already takes a good amount. In the video he was just using a 5000mAh LiPo for demo. With the double motors ,uphill 30% grade , no problem. And they are very torquey... LOL Is that even a word?

Just converted my old full suspension mtn bike to 1000 watt mid drive electric with 52v battery. Top speed just throttle on flats 28 mph. Can climb a 20 degree hill easily. Rode the bike more in last three weeks the. Since I bought 7 yrs ago. It's almost like an electric motorcycle downhill 42 mph. Have tried some single track and it makes it super fun as long as I only use throttle to assist. Otherwise it is too hard on the trail but it sure is nice to be able to climb a hill with out the risk of heart attack:D

That is cool.

Someone needs to take my money as well. i always tell myself I'm done buying toys, but then get sucked into buying some small item every month or so. Skateboard stuff is hard to resist because it's almost free in comparison lol. Although in reality it's death by 1000 cuts.

I believe you mean it's free extra deep exfoliation.

That's awesome. I fly model heli's - all 3S though. I'd love for you to post your motors, ESC and gearing choices and let us know what you think of the build as a project, and your opinion on the electric mountainboard that results.

Keep us in the loop!

WELDNGOD - 2-7-2016 at 07:07 PM

I'm looking at an E-Toxx mount kit, dual HW max6 160A ESCs, 2 enertion 6374 outrunner motors, and 8S lipo battery. This is a proven setup. I'm no RC wizard ,so I'm going to go with something already tried and true.

@WELDNGOD: Cool. One thing I noticed in the videos is that the batteries were in a case. I saw no evidence of ventilation. Maybe helicopters pull more amps over a shorter period of time...but I can tell you there is a VERY SIGNIFICANT build up of heat that needs to be dissipated in the battery pack. I saw that setup and my first reaction was "W-H-A-T ????????????????" I have a Tenergy four channel balanced charger...will have to check the specs to see if it'll handle 8S.

If I were to buildsomething like this (for fun of the project) I would opt for a high torque low speed option since I'm older and have easy, direct access to a hilly nature preserve with MILES of trails which I hike multiple times per week 3 seasons out of the year. Have never trudged through in winter when there was snow on the ground ...but might try one day. Also, there's a schoolyard 1/4 mile away with a huge expanse of neatly maintained open grass field for test purposes.

WELDNGOD - 3-7-2016 at 06:26 AM

I understand the concern about heat ,but damaging the battery if left unprotected, is a bigger threat. I plan on using the new Turnigy Graphene batteries ,they are supposed to make a lot less heat and have more lifetime cycles than regular LIPO. I'm sure I can make an enclosure that is vented and protective. I should have named this thread how to turn a $700 ATB into a $2700 ATB... :o

I was just looking at this the other day:

Thought it looked awesome. If only I knew something about electric motors... Or batteries... Or had a crap ton of extra money... Hahaha
