Alaia board?

nate76 - 2-7-2016 at 09:48 PM

I've been getting the itch to build an Alaia board. Any of you guys have experience with one? Sounds like they may be a fun lightwind option.

I was also wondering what the drawbacks might be of building out of cedar rather than paulownia wood? Paulownia seems to be quite a bit harder to find locally and fairly expensive. I've worked with cedar and balsa before - never paulownia so don't know much about it or how it compares to the other two.

looks like cedar is suitable

Oh - well there you go. Thanks Ssayre!

I just cut down my last wiliwili tree for handcrafted toothpicks, so I guess I'll have to revert to cedar.

There's a couple of DIY threads on kiteforum.com

Thanks Kamikuza!

There was a video made a few years back that used to have a link to DIY plans, but the link seems broke now. Still a cool video though:

Hi I would stick to Paulownia wood as everybody is using that.
Check http://www.NeoAlaia.com there are some "shape issues" explained.
Or you can google Naish Alaia dimensions, I can not find the link right now but somebody took the measurements out.
