I've been getting the itch to build an Alaia board. Any of you guys have experience with one? Sounds like they may be a fun lightwind option.
I was also wondering what the drawbacks might be of building out of cedar rather than paulownia wood? Paulownia seems to be quite a bit harder to
find locally and fairly expensive. I've worked with cedar and balsa before - never paulownia so don't know much about it or how it compares to the
other two.ssayre - 2-7-2016 at 10:10 PM
looks like cedar is suitablenate76 - 2-7-2016 at 10:25 PM
Oh - well there you go. Thanks Ssayre!
I just cut down my last wiliwili tree for handcrafted toothpicks, so I guess I'll have to revert to cedar.Kamikuza - 3-7-2016 at 02:41 AM
There's a couple of DIY threads on kiteforum.comnate76 - 3-7-2016 at 05:22 AM
Thanks Kamikuza!
There was a video made a few years back that used to have a link to DIY plans, but the link seems broke now. Still a cool video though:
Awesome - thanks Glaucomys!Kiter Joe - 26-9-2016 at 01:39 AM
Hi I would stick to Paulownia wood as everybody is using that.
Check http://www.NeoAlaia.com there are some "shape issues" explained.
Or you can google Naish Alaia dimensions, I can not find the link right now but somebody took the measurements out.
