Anybody tried Kite Skimming?

Randy - 13-8-2016 at 04:27 PM

Anybody tried this? Looks like the guy with the NPW is going downwind, the other guy is going across the wind.

Anybody other than me not have videos showing, but instead black vertical strips.. (I guess there's 2 videos I should be seeing?)...

This occurred in another video post of another thread too now...

You'll have to add LINK for me to see... at least..?

I love how this crew keeps on inventing new great ways to get pulled around by the wind! Very nice application indeed!

The first video really gave me a great feel for the action and how one would start moving. It did appear to b a very long one way trip however. Long walk of shame back? No actual shame in it of course; looked fun and well worth it!

Second video shot from a self tracking drone? Slick.

Nice beach. I was tempted to buy a skim board and try this a while back as u would need lot less power than kitesurfing but I didn't want to get into two watersports at the same time and mess up my learning curve. but I think I will definately try this again but I think it works better with a beach that has a low tide that extends for a few metres.

Was only able to see the first video but it looks like a lot of fun. Wish we had those kind of beaches here...I would like to give it a shot.

Can't get over how he's able to run at the kite like that and for so long!

I skim boarded my whole life until 2008 when I ruptured 2 discs in my neck in a fall. Can't believe he can glide it up onto the dry sand that easily. I use to skim with a ton of momentum and speed and all it took was an unseen dry spot to cartwheel me and send me to the ER.

Sorry to hear about your neck! I was wondering about that too. The few times I've tried to skimboard have had abrupt stops as you describe. At least the sand you slam into is rock hard. I'm wondering if maybe the upward lift of the kite helps in that regard.

hmm me too. i first looked at this post on my iPad and had no problem seeing the videos in the thread but just looking at the forum on my computer and all I see is the black bar where each video should be.

Bladerunner - 16-8-2016 at 06:05 PM

Big kites with a skim board was actually considered an acceptable low wind combination back before things developed in that respect.

You don't have to stick to the shore and can get upwind.
