Repair question: what glues work?

NorthernKitesAustralia - 26-9-2016 at 08:31 PM

I've been using Stormsure exclusively on all my valve and bladder repairs for LEI kites. It works, but it's damn expensive.
I am after "cheaper" but just as good varieties.
I've heard Tarzan grip mixed with acetone (aparantly to help bond the polyutherane) works. I have not tried it yet.
I've tried Sixaflex 291, and it sort of works, but you have to use lots of it, and do a "double-trap" on both valve and bladder to give it more "grip" on the main bladder. I thin it with metho and sort of paint it around the valve area which does a great job covering little holes that are almost impossible to spot with the naked eye.
Any other tips?

I've always just used a Tear-Aid Type B patch to stick mine on & never had any issues.

Thanks Tom. I was referring more to the valves, not the bladder as such. Tear Aid A works fine for me.

I was referring to the valves as well. I usually just cut a small round hole in the middle of a Tear-Aid patch, large enough to fit the valve through and cut the outer edge to be about 1.5 inches larger than the outer rim of the valve itself. I then stick the valve on to the bladder using the patch.
