Side Rail Foam Mod

Almost as good as having a seat belt. Functional; but it's hard on the eyes. Granted; I don't see it while I'm riding. I don't think I'll ever get used to the look though.

We're just so used to seeing it with the 3" foam.

This is a 6" foam "yoga roller".

The stock china grey foam seems unobtainable. Using "pool noodles"; that type foam once smashed goes flat.

This roller foam is kinda the same way. I got this to test as it was cheap. If I was to stay with this; when it needs replacing; I would get an EVA foam roller.

They make these rollers in 12", 18", and 36". I got one 36". If you go this route; cut it in two before you pierce the hole into it. Reading up online; seems no drill bit was up to task. Recommended method is to use a piece of 1" copper pipe and sharper the end using a grinder. Did that and it cut nicely.

The buggy is actually more comfortable this way while at the same time; being a really snug fit. I don't think I'll fit with my winter clothes. I find myself relaxing into one of the sides as I'm cruising. I've had several moments when the kite would have normally made me light in the seat or had that started but not complete OBE. Just the initial yank but not enough to exit the buggy. With this foam; the buggy stays with me in those situations. I've had moments when the buggy tires seemed to be 1" off the ground; or me and it were pulled sideways.

I will most likely make some curved side rails. I'd like to find a source for that stock grey foam. It's different and nicer than the standard "pipe insulation" sold at the hardware stores.

Can't really tell from this photo; but I am absolutely wedged in there. And my foam isn't even centered.

Nice job:thumbup:
I have done somewhat the same thing. As for wrapping the foam I used a cloth type tape. Same stuff you binde books with, it comes in different colors and width.

Nice innovation! Agreed, it does look a touch funky. First thing I thought of when I looked at it was "booster rockets" :D Maybe you could build on that theme and have some fun with the funk.
