Dogs in BuggyTown.

sockhat - 15-3-2007 at 10:56 AM

O.K.-
I've seen pictures, and I've read the rules on having dogs in BuggyTown.

I am planning to bring my dog, and I was hoping that some of you may have some stories (good or bad) about the four legged friends in camp...

Tanner is a 14 month Yellow Lab and is a pretty good pup.
He has been down to the desert before and did well.

Thanx for any input,

Rob

Watch out for wear on their pads, keep plenty of water on hand for them and don't let Corey feed your dog!.....aj and caddo

Thanks AJ- I was thinking of getting him some of those shoes for dogs.
I think they call them "paw-tectors" , but his friggen' feet are as big as mine!

I will be bringing a just turned one year old Australian shepherd with me. Beau would love to have play dates with Tanner during the event. Beau has been buggying with me since September but this will be his first trip to the desert.

That sounds like a good time.

I've got a trailer for Tanner, and now I'm teaching him to buggy.:D

I wonder if any one would insure him as a rider. HA HA

Doggies in Buggy Town

Lack-O-Slack - 15-3-2007 at 07:14 PM

We've only had, in my experience, one negative issue with a doggie in Buggy Town, and it was due to owner negligence and failure to accept responsibility for his pet's actions.

Poo-poo in the kite pits is NOT FUN! Excrement on kites and lines, buggy tires, or shoes is a real downer.

Clean up after 'em, don't let 'em roam free (in California, there is a universal leash law, and with lots of lookie-loos on the weekends, in particular, there are wandering children and other pets that can induce fights, bites, or worse). Also, we had one incident, I think about 3 years ago, where Curtis lost his steak dinner to a dog raiding his ice chest, sitting on the ground beside his van. Leash 'em, please, when you're not with 'em and paying attention. We never blame the doggies, do we, Spanky?

Oh, and never, ever let your doggie visit Corey before 7:00 a.m., when the Mayor is testing his Gourmet Canine Comestible Creations. Just ask Caddo.

Thanks Dooley for the tips on dogs in buggy town. I am trying to be a very responsible dog owner. I have made sure I have plenty of bags to pick up dog poo on my almost 2000 mile odyssey to be with my family. If Beax is not with me he will be tied to the trailer. I know about Corey. I remember what happened last year. Reguarding Sparky, Leo could do no wrong and he never took a dump out on the playa either.

Susan will you be picking up after Corey too? You might want to bring a flat head shovel and a lot of extra bags.........aj:barf:

sockhat - 15-3-2007 at 08:57 PM

I'm more than happy to pick up after Tanner, but someone else can have Corey.... Tanner can be enough on his own...

Oh, and Corey, if your reading this- you can pet him, but don't feed him...:barf:

By the way... Caddo....What happened when Corey fed you?

aj said to watch out for wear on their pads. If they are going to be running around do remember the footwear. My dog had an incident with his pads wearing off and it's not pleasant. The Playa is like sandpaper!

See you all out there.

Steve.

I have seen that happen to dogs, and it does suck!

kitemaker4 - 15-3-2007 at 09:12 PM

Corey needs to learn to pick up after himself. I am not sure I will have enough room to bring supplies to pick up after him from what a mess he made last year. lol

I catch the drift. I'll pass the message to Tanner, and let him come to his own conclusions...:wow::o:puzzled:
