I've done research in the past on this, I've seen it dated even further back, to the Chinese. First fliers of kites as I recall, used them during
battle, eventually led to something similar where they used a large "kite" to pull wagons and stuff like that. I hope I am recalling that correctly. I
used to go to schools and give presentations and demonstrations a few years back.
