Knotty Problem

Ed Cline - 26-12-2016 at 09:16 AM

Here's a Peel 8m. It has much string to help it fly. I want to help too, however the elastic bands are secured by knots especially engineered to tangle the bridle lines.

It'll fly okay even with questionable bridling but an improvement would be nice.
The 5m flys beautifully without the elastic. Is the 8 a mod victim or just unlucky enough to find me as it's master?

Can I make them knots a little slicker on the 8 without ruining my kite?

Just noticed the kite has the same color scheme as the book on the coffee table. Hippie Kite.
The book is Bilder fur den Himmel. Pictures for the sky. :P

Same color scheme as the awesome Delta in your avatar! I like Rasta kites, too!

little issue trying to figure out the pics- but just incase you didn't know don't undo that bridle to clear the tangle just figure out the maze and untangle much easier- as for the bungie? must be an older design I would not want flex or spring in my lines and would just remove and replace with a short pigtail, but I must admit I have no knowledge of those kites

I apologize for the poor picture. It was taken to make sure the leaders went back together right in case the bridle thing got out of hand. It didn't, but that's the pic I had.

What it is is that the trailing lines are on an elastic spring made of three strong shock cords.
It seems to flatten out the kite when the wind picks up. Like shock absorbers for the brakes lines only it's not supposed to have brake lines? The flying lines are not on the cords only the lower lines.

Could this thing have started life as a 4 line? From what I've read the 4 line Peel was kind of a short lived mistake some kiters made back in the day.

Anyway the problem at hand is that the lines all catch on the elastic knots and I need them to slip by without me doing it manually. Tape or a boot of some kind?

would a "sleeve" work something like a small piece of ripstop fabric sewn as a tube/funnel that you could slide over to cover the bungy when it is not stretched- just an idea

It works for Born Kite. Now, If I can just find the right colors!:P
