Specially skis and snowboards for snowkiting ("CustomSkis" from Russia)

VladimirCS - 13-6-2017 at 04:12 PM

Hello
I make custom skis and snowboards specially for snowkiting races.

Length 215cm, Radius 150m, 100/94/100mm, hardness like DownHill skis, weight 2.3kg of one ski (4.6kg pair).
The geometry of kite skis is designed for racing, going on straight line with maximum speed, has the optimum hardness, providing a uniform diagram of the distribution of pressure on the edge, which ultimately makes it possible to avoid lateral slippage even on "bottled" ice. Skis for snowkiting CustomSkis do not break, perfectly keep the course, they can easily go against the wind, they are stable, they give an advantage in races before "downhill" skis and go on an equal footing with "speedski" skis, with less weight and length.

The edge in the beginning has the shape of the nose of the ship, this shape is better kept on hard ice.

I have been making skis for 5 years and have gained a lot of experience in making high quality kite skis. Athletes on my skis took up a lot of prizes at various competitions in Russia. You could see these skis on WISSA, TOKE, Ragnarock, etc.

Cost is 700EUR or 800$
Shippig about 100EUR to EU or 150$ to US (from Russia)

You can find more interesting information at my site http://www.customskis.ru/english
And many photos at my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/customskis.ru

hmmmmmp...very cool stuff, really like your penguin & longboards
good luck to you comrade...btw, you haven't been colluding w/ our President have you?

Now this is what I'd call a niche market. Don't get me wrong, it makes me happy to see such a beautiful ski so purpose built, I just can't imagine this being in high demand. That there is a robust enough kite skiing scene in Russia to even make this possible is incredible.

I checked on their website and saw that the skis are 215 cm, something not mentioned in the original post. I love the tip/front edge design; what a great solution to a problem I never knew existed but can immediately see why it would shine on ice.

For the man who has everything, Chris (feyd) you were born to ride your Hardwater on a pair of these!

abkayak, Thank you =) Here says, Ivan Ivanovich Trumpov - russian agent =)

Windstruck, Thanks for commenting of the length, I fixed the post =)

Why this tip design is better? It's hard for me to explain it in English =) I'll try.
A small hillock will push the ordinary tip to the right (see photo), and the tip will start to vibrating, and slipped on the ice. But this shape will move it gently from above. All the usual skis in the area of the beginning of the effective edge have this form. But we have the length of the tip 25cm and the rise of 10cm. If we do the usual form, then the edge will go very low in the side and cling to all irregularities, tips will jump and take off the ski off course.
And such a height of lifting socks is needed that would not be afraid of hummocks on frozen lakes. I was asked to do this many of our riders.

Tests have shown that with this form the vibration of the tips has markedly decreased.

I love the tip design. Thank you for your explanation. My snowkiting experience is limited almost entirely to deep soft powder snow here in the Utah mountains. "Greatest Snow On Earth" or so it says on my car's license plate. :D

In soft deep snow (and just cruising, not racing) I've had good success with big powder boards (191 cm, 150-119-136, 18m radius). In such conditions holding an edge is a different sort of process involving body angulation but not really edge hold. I know you know this but others reading this may not be familiar with these nuances.

One of PKF's snowkiting kings is Chris Kruge (fewd). Chris runs a snowkiting school in New Hampshire: www.hardwaterkiter.com. I know he would really appreciate these skis.

Quick question: why any radius at all? I appreciate you only drop 6mm for a 150m radius, but why not just run them as a straight 100mm for their entire length? I'm thinking this may have something to do with not creating a reverse sidecut when flattening out the ski's camber, but I'd like to hear the explanation from you as I'm sure everything about this ski was absolutely on purpose.

Good luck getting a these into wider circulation. I'm not your customer for a number of reasons but I appreciate a product like this very much.

Welcome. Nice to hear from somebody in Russia. You folks are way ahead of us in this sport and your input is valuable!

Nice to see some development to assist kiting on snow. I can see where these developments will be of value to high level pilots.

As a poor kiter who gets WAYyyyyy to few snowkite days per year I am stuck using long old school straight edge skis to get the extra edge contact on ice and short twin tips for the soft stuff. If I got out more, getting rid of tip chatter would be worth investing in.

Windstruck, Skis without radius goes very gently, but the legs go in different directions =) Straight skis fall on the kite, and at speed it is not possible to make micromodings - it's very uncommon. I tried different radius, eventually chose 150 as the most convenient. He rules, but at the same time he goes well in a straight line. Radius less than 100m is already worse on the ice.

I already communicate with someone with nickname hardwaterkiter on the next kiteforum.com =) Thanks)

Thanks for this explanation. Good luck!

Now I found a cheaper option by SPSR Express, around 100EUR to EU, and 150USD to US
+ Customs fees, depending on the country of destination.

UP!
Pay attention to our skis =)

The geometry of the kite skis is designed for movement in a straight line at maximum speed, has optimal stiffness, which provides a uniform profile of pressure distribution on the edge, which ultimately allows you to eliminate side slip even on bottle ice. Unlike skis with a pronounced waist, CustomSkis snowkiting skis do not stall, perfectly hold the course, make it easy to go upwind, are stable, give an advantage in racing over downhill skis and go on an equal footing with Atomic Speedski skis, with less weight and length
