Line sets?

So for the most part all but two of my line sets Are HQ. I have one PL set that came with my Viper and I have a Set of Pansh lines I bought because they were so cheap I wanted to give them a shot. What can I say they are lines. They are considerably larger diameter than the HQ or PL sets. They are also not color marked. They are white or at least they were. After a few runs out on the beach they are now stained multiple colors. Haha. I do like the HQ's. Also the nearest kite shop carries HQ products. So this gives me an opportunity to help support my local kite shop. I have established a good relationship with the owner and in turn he will often let me know when he gets stuff in he knows I might be interested in. Such as quad line sets...Anyway...I am curious as to what and where the rest of you are using. What line sets are you using and where are you getting them?
It seems to me that the online option for kite gear is slowly dwindling. Or is that just me? For instance, trying to find a PL line sets. Or he'll...just try to find a PL distributor in the U.S. Seems to be almost nonexistent.

I have broke every brand of line sets on the market, except one.
Smaller diameter or thinner lines is not always a good thing. I personally don't care for some of the brand name line sets. I ended up buying a 1000 foot role of power and a 1000 foot brake lines to make my own.
Talk to Daniel at shanty kites for bulk line sets or custom line sets. Best knowledgeable guy in the line business IMHO.
As for the line set that never broke, (until I used an old set to tow a few buggies off the beach) was the pansh line sets. If they were pre stretched, I would use them more often.

I know that Cerebite was experimenting/using a type of line used by tree pruners as a lower cost alternative to standard kite line. Unfortunately he has relocated and doesn't seem to be as active on PKF.

I have been tempted to buy Q-PowerLine in bulk and make my own line sets. It does seem to be more appropriate for water/snow use and probably heavier weight. The fact that it doesn't require sleeving is attractive. Still expensive though...

I've got a set of John's (cerebite) linesets and they are as advertised (tree pruning). It's interesting cord; sort of a little thicker and waxier than I've become used to but very high quality and super strong. I don't remember how strong, but the line specs exceed what one would get from FS, PL, OZ, etc. Nice stuff.

I'm not in the market I was simply curious as to where everyone was using and where they are getting it from. I am perfectly happy with the HQ sets and I like supporting my local kite shop.

We have been a Peter Lynn, Ozone, HQ, Shanti and Laser Pro Gold and Q-Power retailer for over 15 years. Most lines we have in stock, even Q-power in 200, 300 and 600 pound sets. We also carry Q-power in 2000 and 4000 pound spools for special single line setups. We were also the first shop to work side by side with Daniel at Shanti in the development of the new Skybond line that is taking the kite market by storm. For dual line stunt kite flying I prefer Skybond. For quad line stunt kites, I prefer Warp Speed, for power kites I prefer Q-Power.

We make custom linesets in just about anything you want. If you can't find it at your local shop then give us a call.

It is true I have been making line sets from arborist throwing line for a few years now. I have had great success with the Q power lines from A Wind of Change. Amazing durability (unless you cross lines with snot nosed toy kite flyers using cotton line (lying story)) but have issues with holding kinks and twists. But like many of us I am an inveterate tinkerer.....
My wife's father is a retired arborist which spurred me to look into tree lines and I found they have a lot of small diameter cord with high strength and durability for rubbing over tree branches. I have a spreadsheet of sizes and suppliers if you are interested, I settled on 3 mm, 600 #, the only downside is that it is pink (but I am secure enough in my masculinity to fly pink lines :) ). It also gave me a chance to practice my fid work.

I actually believe my masculinity peaks when I fly with my gifted pink line set. :cool:

Steve, you might talk to Ed Cline. He probably would be happy to make a deal on his pink NPW.

like I said. I mostly use HQ Line sets. I like that they are colored and they seem to wear well. I have one set of PL lines. They seem to be good quality but they twist. Such as when I'm winding my lines up while still attached to the kite. They twist and they twist the bridle lines. I have repeatedly tried to get the twists out to no avail. As if the twist is embedded in the lines memory. This is the only set I have that does this. I like pink. My 12m Waroo's is pink and I've often considered finding a Pink Peak just because it's pink. What material is the arborist line made of? You mentioned that it's resistant to chafing. One of spectra's weaknesses is it does NOT handle chafing or abrasion well. On the ships we often have to wrap it in chafing gear. Where it passes through a non roller chocks

Sorry, no can do Randy. Tami expects me to maintain a completely symmetrical quiver and I'm not going to let down such an important member of this community over something like this. :frog:
