Not really.. but ...

Wind chill -12 to -5 , so damn cold.

Kold for Kiting.... Kool for Kats!

Yesterday had gusty high winds and was a small kite day. Windblown Hardpack snow surface combined with gusts close to 30 mph, made fast runs at times. I never wear down jackets kiting but I needed all that warmth for the wind chills. I actually stayed warm whole time, as well as my hands.

An improvement(for speed and miles) over day before with very low winds. A pic from the day before:

Looks to be the makings for a long season with this incredible stretch of deep cold..

Anyone got any pics/video on snow/ice...?

After a few days off from work and locked in the house due to it being too cold for the kids to go out, that picture looks awesome. Maybe should start looking as to what kind of gear would I need for that because the winters are awfully long when staying indoors.
Is that Horn Pond in Woburn?

Thx. Do you use downhill or cross country skis. Does any kite that works for buggying also works for skiing. Currently my whole quiver is fixed briddless.

Telemark skis.

(Solid TOURQUE-ABLE boot and binding set-up needed....Forget idea of using x-country skis/bindings).

Any kite works. I'm on all FB also.

Too cold for me, Bri though I did think of you on Friday when I took the kids to the IMAX theater at Jordan's. Took a peak towards the lake as we got off the highway but didn't see anyone on the ice. I recut the trail to the pond in my backyard yesterday but didn't feel like kiting with the cold temps.

Loving this cold. Ice machine is in full effect! Been a whole weekend of wind and bright moonlight. Got a moonlight session right from 2017 into 2018. Got off the ice at 1:30 am. Cold but worth it.

Now that's the way to ring in the New Year! Way to go Chris, coming in strong. I've been thinking of you lately and thinking that you've got all the ice you could ask for this season. I know you've been getting some snow too, so maybe you're even thinking of "boosting" now and then. :evil:

-35C here on Friday, before wind chill (-31f). Had a week or more cold snap up here.

Not that it matters, still not enough snow to kite yet.

Too stormy to kite...Too windy to kite... and more too Kold to kite...

First,
Chris K., that a nice pic, and an OUTRAGOUS angle to edge(no limits!). That full moon you rode was very tempting.... to go back out and ride under when I saw it -riding in the daytime.

Steve, I have been telemarking since before telemarketing...:puzzled:.....no wait... I mean.. since the rebirth of the telemark out west..Sorry....i'm just a Pinhead.

That may indeed be too kold to kite! The consideration and prep to deal with such cold is a task in itself.

We are beginning a BLIZZARD here and the snow will be deep on the lake. I will miss that delectable, carvable windpack.
(Heck, I miss the glare ice too!)

The winds are getting very high......power-outage high.

After the blizzard even colder air will come back.

Hmnn where can I go single skin in a blizzard..?( Maybe just outside my door, riding down a suburban street...:lol

Too funny! I love your reference to telemarketing. I'm sure you too have heard people use that word by mistake. On the chairlift: "So, how long have you been telemarketing?" and fifty similar variations. Good intentions but blown delivery.

I'm getting a Born-Kite StreetStar next month and if we ever get some significant snow out West this winter I want to use it like this:

After my freak gasoline fight accident a few summers ago ( http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=32253 ) I had to swear off harnessed snowkiting or lose my marriage (easy decision really), but once I get just the right combination of snow pack, wind, and the StreetStar in hand I intend to show my bride this video and crack the window open again. Of all the ways I've used wind as motive power snowkiting was my absolute favorite and I really miss it. I intend to tele with the StreetStar. Fingers and toes crossed!

SkimT, I love that nasa your flying. Looks awesome. I've sat out for a long time but one of my customers is into ice boating. They are gearing up for a good season and have invited me to come along sometime. I'm considering knocking out a simple ice boat buggy out of wood to use with the kites. Finally some freaking ice in my parts. If I didn't suck at skiing so bad, I would just get a cheap pair of skis and go at it.

I haven't been kiting much partly because of the cold (lots of below 0 days, -25 to -35 windchill) but mostly because I can't stand my ski boots. They were bad enough last year, and this year it takes about 5 minutes before my feet are screaming in pain. I know I need new boots, but I hate spending 700+ bucks on a nice pair of boots that more than likely need some customization work to be comfortable. Especially when there isn't anyone in 500 miles that does that kind of boot work. Guess I should fly out to Colorado and buy boots there :cool:

Check craigslist, there can be some killer deals there if you are patient and know what to look for.
