Boy,are the sunsets beautiful here!
Here is today's eye candy!
It's me with the old Apex at sunset.
I flew fixed bridles way under powered all afternoon as the wind subsided. Not enough kite to get back up wind. Had to do the walk of shame.
When I got back it was too late to put out a new kite, so I stole Joey's.

Better luck tomorrow

Here is the blue moon rising over the eastern mountains. Full tomorrow night.
Gorgeous evening session. Joey and I both decided that it was the most chill kiting ever. Maybe 6 or 7 mph and really learning to pilot

Thanks everybody for sharing your pictures and a little bit of your "stoke" to the unfortunate souls that could not attend. It's awesome to see, I hope to attend in the future.

is that it? no good stories?
I'm always interested to hear how first time attendees made out - no matter your level of experience it's usually something that will either blow away all expectations or intimidate the hell out of you on some days. from scattered posts looks like everyone had a good time.
I saw John Chilese had posted a photo set: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPRcMLKWYrliRuO4CzjbyTB...

And we wonder why our sport is shrinking. Share your stories and share your "stoke" with potential new people.

It seems like many people will pull things off the forum to u2u, text, email or Facebook instead of posting here. Or not posting at all.
I can understand for personal matters but keep the public stuff public to keep others aware that we are still active in this sport. If it weren't for this forum I probably wouldn't have gotten into bugging, owned as many kites or had nearly as much fun with kites. I have also met several people that even though I have only met them a handful of times, I consider them good friends and look forward to seeing them the next time.

When I was out at the beach this last weekend there were many interested people who stopped and watched or stopped to ask questions.

Keep posting stories and pictures, please. Let's keep this sort visible instead of hiding.

I've got a story to tell. I got a new Montana X 8m. It seemed perfect when I went out but I tend to flirt with overpowered at times. ;) There were the typical currents of higher wind along with the usual gusts that blow through. Possibly because I had to totally take my buggy apart, my front end was a little light. Winds were out of the west, which gives you huge long runs over the full length of the lakebed but that also means you can run out of room very fast if you get pulled off your line towards the shore. A huge blow came through right as I got moving towards Primm which means the lakebed gets narrower as you go that direction. My front wheel is sliding a bit after I realize my trim line has somehow gone to full power. I'm blistering along easily over 50 with front wheel sliding and kite locked in and pulling hard. As I'm considering pulling my safety, I see Ken Shaw coming at me doing a better job at staying upwind than me. I had just passed the point of safely cutting downwind of him and that would've accelerated me towards the shoreline. I was getting dragged towards Kens path, really worried about being on a collision course with him, realizing I'm out of options because if I pull my safety, Ken is going to run through my lines while I'm still leashes to a kite I am no longer flying. Somehow, I was able to hold my line enough to not get closer than about 30 feet and we passed safely. In the next half mile, I was able to edge upwind and get slowed down to turn. When I checked my gps, it was over 54 mph while trying for a mile and a half to hold my line and scrub speed. I'd guess that gust was around 30 mph and had I had room for an arcing reach, and room to slow down later, that wind would've taken me over 60.

I didn't think Ken even noticed me but he said he saw that I was on what seemed like a good run!

great story Bobby - love hearing them. Got video?!
Hey kitejumping what kites did you end up using? Charger 3s - curious how you made out and if you kept the kites clean :D

I love those pictures with the dust trails behind the buggy giving the imprssion of speed. Like smoking tires of a wind dragster! Awesome skylines and spectacular setting! The kites and buggies in action great to see!

In Jeepersjoey's case that wasn't a wind dragster, it was a butt dragster!
