Call for donations to 2019 IBX raffle...

jeepersjoey - 20-10-2018 at 08:05 AM

Hey everyone!

IBX is about 160 days away and my crew (ha!) is starting to brainstorm on ways to make IBX "go to eleven".

I would like to take the raffle to the next level. Since IBX is supported by you, I am proposing that each of us look around our (way to big) stash and find items that you don't really need or use anymore. I am asking you to earmark that item(s) for the Raffle this year.

Windstruck (Steve) has said he has 1-2 single-skin kites to give. Mad Hungarian (Dick) has at least one kite. I will be throwing in 1-4 kites, probably the Ozone Turbo bar, as well as another 1.75l of Jack Daniels. A few others in my group are searching through their stuff as well.

I am planting the seed now so that you have 4 months to search. Go!

HQ will bring some items for the raffle.

As mentioned above, I'll be donating two kites into the raffle. These as (lovingly used and still in near mint condition) 2.5 and 4.0m Born-Kite NasaStar-3s. Both scrubbed clean of all but the most minuscule remaining playa dust. You'll be winning these at IBX and they'll be among the cleanest used kites in the place. ;)

Thanks again for spearheading this iPaul!:thumbup::thumbup:

I have a 10m Venom PL arc I'm going to put in the raffle as well. It's redundant and useful really only to lakebed riders. Thanks for heading this up JJ

I'm not able to attend, but I can send some unobtainium for the raffle. I'm not exactly sure what I will send, but there will be some hand-carved wood goodness in it.

Consider where I should send it.

PBC that would be like gold bouliion in the raffle! Thanks so much! I have an address for you.

jeepersjoey - 22-1-2019 at 08:25 PM

Absolutely, BB!

I am working some stuff behind the scenes that I hope will make the raffle this year one to remember!

I am stockpiling as much stuff as I can find. I can think of 3 kites that need a new home. And a bottle of Jack. And a few kite stakes. And anything else I can find.

Hmm...maybe this is the year to get rid of my Peter Lynn c-quad 6.4m? Anyone think this would be worth winning?

Hey KiteKiller...

I have a challenge for you.

You put in your two Pink Rage kites and I will do the same. One person wins all four. Worth about $1000-1500.

How is that for a challenge!

But, I will only do it if he does it as well. Now you guys work on him to get him to do it!

Paul

(Like I said....the raffle of the century!)

Getting very close now!

jeepersjoey - 12-3-2019 at 06:28 PM

Angus Campbell donated two boxes of stuff. Harnesses, handles, kites, etc.

I've got things to add.

I ask you again to look around your bags and find that item that you bought with the best intentions, but just did not connected with. Bring them along and throw them into the raffle mix.

This group is self-supported. Let's make this raffle the one to remember! One item from each person and it will be amazing. We already have enough items that I will be buying a "Steve Holman" size fistfull of tickets!

Bring your items to the big tent so all can see.

On another note...I was thinking back to when I was a kid with a 1979 Kawasaki KE100. My dad created 25 tickets of $20 each. I got $500 and someone got the motorcycle for $20!
I was thinking that this would be a really cool way for people who are trying to sell a large ticket item.
Think about a $500 Buggy with $20 tickets. How awesome would that be?!?

Anyone want to step up and raffle their large ticket item? No money to the IBX. Strictly 25 tickets of $20. Don't sell the 25 tickets...return all money and cancel the raffle.

I can think of at least one person with a Peter Lynn Buggy that would part with it for 15 tickets of $20!

Anyone?

So...how do the raffle go?

jeepersjoey - 12-4-2019 at 06:28 PM

It was epic. I will ask Morrie if he can share the details with us all.

This year's raffle made $1382 and the auction made $1452.

A big thanks to Paul for organizing and to all of the contributors!

BeamerBob - 22-4-2019 at 08:57 AM

The event owes its continuing operation to our generous sponsors and those that contribute to and support the raffle and auction. It takes a village for kite buggy events with the expenses we have to put on an event in the desert like this. Thanks to all who allow us to keep doing this.

Proud to help out and keep this event going!

Glad I could help.

Wanna raise some cash?..Lemme buy all those vapors off of you!

:D

(No seriously... if theyre for sale, I'd be interested in buying all of them)

Phillip and Donnie need some special recognition. They both gave their time and put their heart into their handmade contributions. Hats off to both of you.:thumbup:

I played "taps" several times during IBX2019.

I know that at least half my Vapors were not flying right by the time I put them away "wet".

It was very sad and I have not yet pulled them out to see if they are repairable.

If I remember right, the 4.5 and 3.2 both have major issues. This was the first time with the 4.5m and it performed as strong as the 5.4m but I was not actually pulled sideways with the 4.5m. More controlled. I have flown the 6.9 (I think) and it was a beast. I cannot imagine flying the larger kites!

The Vapors are amazing kites. They definitely require significantly more skill to fly than others I have. I bet I was in 5 instances where the kite should have thrown me out of the buggy but I was able to wrangle it and win the fight.

Interestingly, my top speed of 52.0 mph was effortless on the 4.5m Vapor. I did not realize my top speed until I stopped for the day.

Yea...I am hooked on the Vapors. But, I definitely need to buy more to replace the damage I have caused.

That makes me sad. Long live Vapor!!
Paul

Yeah I loved my vapors... i didnt think it would be so hard to replace them if i decided to get back into the sport.

Oh well.. Ill keep an eye out for them and maybe ill get lucky... i just bought a couple older jojo rms and a buggy today, though, so at least i can get back out there at some point.

now i just gotta keep my kite impulses under control... lol
