Sprang Thang - June 1&2

coreykite - 2-5-2007 at 10:48 AM

Buggy Brethren and Sistren,

Our annual Buggy Boogie Sprang Thang is coming up.
The weekend AFTER Memorial Day - June 1st & 2nd.
At Elmer's.

I know... I know...
That's why it is just after the holiday weekend.
Many of us, with jobs, can only get away for a weekend.
Hopefully, the moto-guys will be recovering from the 3-day weekend and not be out in such numbers.

Access to Elmer's is very good and convenient.
We'll be at Walt's Cove.
Running through the pucker bumps is unequaled at any other dry lake.

This event is not about racing or competing.
It is about getting out and riding together.

Hope to see y'all there.

I have the nights off from the show, keeping my fingers crossed no one calls me for some day work now;)

SWEEEEEET, ill see you all there.... Hey Corey, you would probably know the answer to this question, are you allowed to fly into and land directly on the dry lake.. I was planning on flying myself/wife there this time in my cessna 172 (its a single engine (prop) 4 seater plane) its a small plane.. it would be better than the normal 8 hour drive...... i know they let ultralights fly there... ill do some research, but any help you could give would be great......

Hey Don,
Yep. You are allowed to land your Cessna on Elmer's.
What about tie-downs?
There are a bunch of old circa-ww2 aircraft tie-downs right at Walt's Cove.
You'd need to bring some lengths of strap and some 'biners.
Long lengths of strap.

Please time your arrival to the early dawn hours.
Nothing like being awakened by the roar of an airplane engine in camp.

Of course, there are no nav aids or beacons.
We use camo to hide from the sun.
Don't land ON us.

COREY,
Thanks for the info, I actually logged the gps cords from the last time I was there and uploaded them into my avionic gps so I know where camp is located, I will fly in early so I dont scare the hell out of everybody on the ground, Figure me there at about 8am on saturday morning. I will fly overhead and do a few 360 turns at about 800' to signal my landing, I will use tie straps and ground spikes to hold the plane down...if you could just do me a favor and let people know that I will be landing in the area at that time it would help keep everyone safe...... I cant wait to see you all there, Ill be bringing the wife with me as usuall, (finally turned her into a co-pilot) see ya there......:tumble:

Cool.
We shall all dress in our best camo gear and lay about on the playa around 8 am.
Landings should be a challenge.
Some sort of obstacle course, if you will.

Otherwise it's just a straight-in approach and plunk you're on the ground.

(Note the sarcasm in my voice)
