They are Flocking This Way!

jeepersjoey - 14-3-2019 at 08:29 AM

The who's-who of the buggy world is really coming together. There are a few few people notably absent from the list. I hope that you are able to join us.

Brian poked me to brag that he was setting up the GPS locations. By far my favorite portion of the entire event. Thanks for setting this up, Brian!

This is the current list of participants. CALIFORNIA is currently winning with 7 participants.

If any of you are new to IBX, and joining us alone or for the first time...
I offer my services as "Kite Holder" as well as a place to park/camp while there. One of the best things you can have when on the Playa is a person hovering as you learn the ropes. That person is never far away to help hold your kite as you untangle the lines, provide kites for you to try, be able to get you back home (phone a friend), as well as give you a contact person whose information can be provided to those at home as a person to call if they are worried.

Most important is the safety person and one that will find you if you are gone too long. The week is not complete if you do not get rescued at LEAST once.

I like to say "NASA only talks about LANDING on the moon. Not getting them back home".

So...if you are new or just need a place to park, I would like to extend an invitation to my little camp. Look for the 6x8 box camper, 10'x14' blue tent, 8'x8' silver moon-landing tent, and big rental RV just past the big community tent.

Ask for Paul (jeepersjoey), Amy (Awesome Amy), John (Cerebite), Dick (MadHungarian), or Steve (Windstruck). We will kick your experience up to a (Spinal Tap) 11!

I will be there Friday (Mar 29) through Sat (Apr 6). Dick will be there before me (He has the NASA moon-landing tent that can be seen from space) if you will be as well.

Paul

Spinal tap 11 !! Too hardcore for me, although I wish I could join in the fun. Anyone from outside the U.S. attending the event ?

jeepersjoey - 15-3-2019 at 05:35 PM

Bambi and Salvo are there every year.

Are you ever! Looking forward to seeing you again. Just you or the family?

I'll be staying in my truck camper on the playa this year.
I can't wait!
I've been thinking about taking a room at Bills for the odd night mostly to "freshen up".
When camping at SOBB we head to the state park just down the road for a 2 dollar shower.
The BLM rules seem to suggest that you wouldn't be able to have an outdoor shower without standing in a barrel and then taking the contents out with you.
I do have limited facilities in my camper, but it is a little bit like the small Asian guy in Oceans 11 folded into the Money cart.
Does anybody have any suggestions for Ivanpah?
I don't mind heading to Vegas. ( I plan to eat WAY too much, regularly at some of the buffets.)
Recreation centers?
Camp sites?
Lakes, rivers, streams, drainage ditches?
And, I'll head everybody off at the pass, and say that I've already considered the Bellagio fountains.:karate::moon::moon::moon::moon:

I've got all the answers...

You put some stuff in my tent last year. You saw how big it is. Stash your stuff there. Plus, a good place to freshen-up

Bring (large) baby wipes. Each night, full clean and put on new clean clothes. You will feel like you are clean as an Irish Spring bar of soap!

If you really need to take a shower, buddy up with someone and they will give you a key. I am sure that we can find someone to let you shower.

Camp with us. Park your truck/camper by us and we will keep you entertained. We are pretty awesome and always looking for a few awesome more.

Dick (Madhungarian) is already there. He has a silver space tent. I arrive on Friday and have a 6x8 box trailer with awning that I will be staying in for the long week. Windstruck arrives on Monday and is staying at the hotel. Cerebite and wife (AWESOME AMY) arrive Sunday and rent an RV. Depending on when you arrive, find us and setup with us.

I am bald so the wet wipes work well for me. It remember that you had quite a mane of hair. Go off into the shrubs and wash it. I have a 3.8 gallon pump action tank that works really well for a shower (ie hair wash) if you need it.

There...anything else?
Paul

Oh yea...we all eat breakfast at Primm and Proper each morning during the week so you should join us. Check out the buffet on Sat and Sun...they have piles of bacon, fried chicken, and fish planks at 10am...you can thank me later! Mmmmm

I'll be in the same boat as Colin, but joining the group in my own camper . . . . .

Might stay at Nipton campground for a night or 2 for showers and variety.

Rick

Rick and Colin - I love hanging with both of you and you are both of course more than welcome to come shower at my room at the Primm Hotel where I have a room for four nights starting Monday as iPaul mentioned. I did literally LOL when I read Colin's analogy of showering in the camper with the little dude in the money cart. Ha!

MadHungarian - 21-3-2019 at 08:54 PM

The Eagle has landed. Pod deployed. Contact made with alien life forms, they call themselves landsailors.

In seriousness, it looks like the America's Landsailing Cup is going to have a large turnout, already lots of RVs on the playa.

It rained yesterday and tonight. I was able to setup on the playa in between.

Playa surface is good. And no dust because of the precipitation they have been getting.

Get me, you, and Colin together and we will have a big Libre Fullrace support group!

I am trying to remember...I think I met you in the Primm parking deck when I was trying to sort a line set on the 3rd or 4th floor where there were no cars?

Was that you?

Paul

P.s. Dick (Madhungarian)...that looks better than I remember. Nice! See you in a week.

ColinW and Wind_dog:

A landsailor here mentioned to me that the Flying-J truck stop in Primm (west side of I-15) has showers for $12. If that's all you're looking for then it beats getting a room at the casinos.

It's another option anyway.

Wind_dog - 22-3-2019 at 11:24 AM

Also city of Henderson has several public pools.
Shower and a swim for $5+/- before a dinner buffet in town.

Offer stands Big Daddy. You could even give Lucy a quick rinse!

Wind_dog - 22-3-2019 at 02:48 PM

Windstruck.
Thanks for the kind offer; only needed if I get dusty . . . .
Lucy is looking forward to the road trip. The snow here has been too deep for her to get her speed runs.
She is getting a wee bit wide as a result. Nothing that a few jack rabbits can't run off her.

OR

Use an Evapotron! It would look good with the space pod.

Burning Man is an annual camp on Black Rock Playa with BLM permit for up to 70,000 burners.
No gray water dumping on the playa so Evapotrons have evolved.

I favor a solar powered garden fountain over a cone of burlap.

I was thinking more of dousing off on someones kite tarp and letting nature take over,
but i will now put this at the bottom of my to do list before departing.:D
