Barely had any wind at all last year it seemed. Have had a wet spring this year. I got into windsurfing as a back up to being rained out and
something to do in the heat.
Really got into the blokart hard and heavy for a minute. Had to put a few hundred if not thousand miles of basically going around in a big circle in
a parking lot to get my fix. My observations of the blokart:
It has 6" wheels and tires are 13" tall. Compare that to a buggy with 8" wheels and 16" tires. It really doesn't want to roll in the grass when it's
not super powered up. Hence in lighter conditions; I felt restricted to the parking lot. After a while it started to feel really confined and
limited.
Going fast and/or being on two wheels is a ton of fun. But when the conditions aren't there to do either; it's reminiscent of coasting around on a
bicycle.
When I first got it I knew nothing of the history of blokarts or what it happens to be about. Particularly the stance of "we built it and it's a done
deal now go race it". Like what you see is what you get and there will be no more improvements/refinements. I like to mod and change things up. I
have experimented with various tires. But the kart and sails is what it is.
The biggest limiting factor I always had with the Manta is that it just runs one sail size! We get a wide range of wind here and I like to ride in
all conditions. I also had no idea that Manta has been in production since the 1970's! And ice boating has been around since at least the 1950's and
probably even earlier then that!
So it's been a while since I've buggy'd it up and I'm jonesing to get back at it. I miss it.
