To build or not to build

First off I'm pushing 300lbs and have not found a buggy built for me. If you guys know of a fat tire entry level buggy that will work for me then please let me know. Otherwise I will fab one from old bicycles. Thoughts?

It may take a few days, but there are some great builders around here and they can help. We have 2 guys here have built buggy's in just the past few months. Also, there are some pretty big boys that ride buggy so I think there is probably something out there. You might check the For Sale if you haven't already. If you haven't seen them already here are threads showing the build process. Good luck and welcome to PKF.

Thanks! I saw those. The crab one is very interesting since you are not being pulled sideways, I might go that way if I build.

I am pushing 300 lbs also. I have an old Libre sprinter entry level buggy that is built way tougher than peter thin etc. It is only on barrows, but it sounds like it wouldn't be too hard for you to mod the fork for a wider tire.
If you're interested, I'll let it go cheap to get another guy in the saddle.
Or if you are handy with a welder, then maybe we can work something out if you mod an extra Libre fork to bigfoot size for me as well.
Having said all that, I am up in Canada on Vancouver Island and the border is closed so we may have to wait for a bit to exchange.
I also have an extra Vmax that I could be talked out of if you want to start a little bigger...

Vmax. I'm currently waiting for Big John to win the lottery so he'll sell me his latest ride.
The sprinter came from BigKid Via Texas I believe. If you search on PKF for hours you can find the original for sale post. Jeff made a killing except that he had to drag the buggy half way across the country...
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Right on glad you joined ! You're the guy who bought my 4.7 rage right? Welcome ! Everybody here is very cool and experienced. Blitzhound is actually who taught me how to buggy. I probably never would have started of it weren't for him. Thanks John!

Yeah, Popeye's got some awesome stuff out there for how to build stuff. Look him up on Youtube. He covers how he builds pretty much every part of a buggy. If you're not sure on the measurements you want I think he's still got plans you can buy off him for cheap as well.

You can have the sprinter to get you going for free.
If you like, you can make a donation to a local charity of your choice for $50 or 100 depending on your resources?
As to the Vmax... let me get in the garage and see what's what. I've got 2 and have to make sure they're both ready to roll. 3 or 400 for the Vmax? Lets see if people are willing to wade in on price ideas.
As mentioned getting them to you in the US might take a bit. Rest assured I'm headed down to the Oregon/ Washington beaches just as soon as I'm allowed.

I don't know. I stole a midi fork that I had from one of my Cameleon buggies to put on Joey's Vmax... wasn't a perfect fit as I recall, but with a couple washers it works. Having said that, I am not sure where I would run midis that either barrows, discs, or bigfoots wouldn't be much better. They don't cut it in the soft stuff at Sunset, and would just add to the rolling resistance on grass.
If you are going to start fabbing Libre forks, please put Joey down for a bigfoot:saint::cool: and I'll throw in the Cameleon midi fork as a downpayment.

My Midi questions came up because there was some slight interest (in our area it does seem to be a tire size that is skipped over.) Bigfoot lites just work everywhere for us.

If you want to talk libre fork production.....that has been a thing in the very recent past and could start again if necessary. Let me know either here in a forum post here, U2U or FB messenger.

Now back to the original thread.

I asked my wife how she felt about polygamy and it wasn't pretty!😂 Border is supposed to open later this month. Let's connect then. Honestly modifying sprinter sounds like a fun project for me. As for the fresh meat I will make sure to not drop the soap! 😳

Hey Colin: Drag your new friend to IBX next year and let him really see how awesome everyone is.

AlohaBeaches: that rage is a big one. Seriously look at getting a 2.5m Rage. They are excellent starter kites that will last you a several years into your buggy career. I have several and the RAGE is a great little kite that is extremely forgiving.

That is not to say that I did not have a full on pucker-slam early in my career when I was overpowered on a 4.7m and a little too close to all the campers.

Go behind the campers and into the weeds I did...oh, and I let go of that 4.7m kite and spent the next 2hrs untangling the strings,

Yea...early in my career for sure.

Anyway...start planning now for IBX. A week on Ivanpah will give you a new level of appreciation.

And since it sounds like you have lots of offers...share a hotel with one or two of your new friends! Or, camp with me and I will keep you extremely entertained and laughing.

Paul (Jeepers Joey) knows. Always (never)trust a guy whose biggest kite is a 6.5m, he knows Ivanpah. He'd give you the shirt off his back too.
The playa is AWESOME... INTIMIDATING and just a tad surreal, but awesome.

We can get you rolling on the west coast beaches and then we'll set you free to roam the globe searching for steady winds and smooth wide open spaces.

Tell me more about IBX. We take our travel trailer everywhere (except Hawaii). In fact we are heading to Grayland beach this coming Thursday for the weekend. My wife has put up with my kite addiction for 31 years and as long as the #@%$#!tails flow she is a good sport. ;)

You might check with John Dove (blitzhound). He always seems to have a few buggies to spare and he's just down shore of you in Seaside, OR.

Sorry buddy. I missed your posting and question.

IBX is the last week in March. It is self supported by the best people you will meet. There is a big tent, portapotties and infinite places to camp.

People tend to congregate in groups.

The key to IBX is that you connect with a group that can watch over you. With no friction, if your kite goes down and you need to pause, it is very helpful to have a helper to hold your kite while you get your bearings. Also, as you gather your bearings your new friends will keep an eye on you and come to rescue you when needed.

When a person offers to help, always say "yes".

A premier event for sure! I hope you are able to make it. Typically I am there Saturday to Saturday.

Dinner on Thursday along with a raffle and auction.

Yup. Still collecting Covid dust in my garage with your name on it. I ams somewhat hopeful that the borders will be open for fall SOBB, but I'm not holding my breath. We are all supposed to be vaccinated up here by September. Thanksgiving at Alvord?
