Hey Gang
Thinking about Monday May 10 through Friday the 14th

Low tide 2:32 pm Monday, progressing to 5:00 pm Friday

BeamerBob - 18-10-2020 at 12:49 PM

We'll be there!

pbc - 18-10-2020 at 04:18 PM

acampbell - 22-10-2020 at 11:44 AM

Got the green light from JIA and Nancy there says they are looking forward to seeing us.

I'll do the paperwork on the permit...

Awesome Scott! Can't wait to see you guys again.

acampbell - 9-3-2021 at 05:48 PM

Booked and cooked.

Airfare and hotel, plus return to Las Cruces via UHaul. I'll be spending the mornings sorting through and loading up the UHaul from our storage space in Brunswick.

I'll have both my Covid shots in the next few weeks but I'll still bring masks in case I'm around others who haven't; I hope others will do the same as we will not be completely out of the woods yet. I'll have Covid policy sheets from JIA that we'll all need to sign off on. No big deal.

Look forward to seeing you all...

Angus

soliver - 10-3-2021 at 10:25 AM

Whoop whoop, kite loop!

Spent a few hours last week untangling bridles on my little green NS2. Need to start checking buggy parts!

See y'all in May!... Let the countdown begin!

speleopower - 24-3-2021 at 06:56 PM

We are thinking of zipping up for a couple days as well.

Come join us

Hey Ted. A little bird told me that you have a hydrofoil ??!!??

But our little birds don't know kites, so....

BeamerBob - 31-3-2021 at 02:33 PM

Had a concert that we have tickets for that had rescheduled on top of JIBE but today it got bumped 6 months! Back in the saddle for the full week.

acampbell - 15-4-2021 at 01:51 PM

Just heard from Alex in Jacksonville. He and his son are coming up with two others, including Dave with the landsailers.
Also heard from Eric in Jupiter, FL who will be coming (last with us in 2011).

Head count is rising nicely!

pokitetrash - 20-4-2021 at 09:02 AM

Alas...I won't likely make it! First one I've missed since JIBE 1! New job, not much Vaca allowance this first year. I MIGHT come down late Friday night and spend Saturday and Sunday 8/9 but being Mothers Day weekend I might not get the nod.

pokitetrash - 20-4-2021 at 09:04 AM

We gonna have to use masks to ride? or be on the beach?

I think you should wear this one

Randy - 20-4-2021 at 12:28 PM

I don't think Georgia has required masks outdoors for a long time (if they ever did.)

Jack.Oh - 20-4-2021 at 01:21 PM

Hi all, Jack here... My son Kyle and I are planing on joining in at the Jibe this year. Fairly new to the sport looking forward to more buggy time, and meeting all you good folks. And seeing the folks I know from Wildwood.

acampbell - 21-4-2021 at 05:05 AM

Looking forward to meeting you!

Hope it works out Pokite. I went 9-10 years not being able to attend and now I am just able to make it. I tidied up the kite closet this weekend and will check buggy parts and gear this weekend. Wexler is hoping to fly in for a few days so when he's not there, I'll have a tandem setup. Maybe I finally get my wife to go down the beach with me?

Prolly not on the beach as even JIA agrees that our event is uniquely qualified to maintain social distancing. They are good at keeping the whale snot out of the teeth, though.

Looks like many of us will be fully vaxxed, but we should bring masks for social and public interactions, and most responsible businesses are requiring them.

The governors can yank my downtube but I'm not hanging up my mask until the CDC and Uncle Anthony say that the coast is clear.

TEDWESLEY - 21-4-2021 at 08:06 AM

We arrived yesterday evening. Staying at our usual place through JIBE (it's damn nice being retired!)
Got to assemble the equipment, and yes Angus, that stimulus check brought a Quatro Wind Drifter and Slingshot Hover Glide foil into the quiver! I got the ozone WASP last year for kite skiing. I'm hoping Randy will have words of wisdom and his
foil for words of advice.
The beach looks great as always. The tides are about what they will be for JIBE and they should be great!
Be missing you Pokite, please send the cookies if you can't make it yourself! Will Frank be coming?

We can tell Elizabeth that there has been a chemical spill on the beach and we need her expertise. The Golden Ray is still in the harbor channel being cut up, so it's plausible!

soliver - 25-4-2021 at 05:03 PM

We'll be arriving on saint Simons on Saturday 5/1 and staying there both weeks. I'll be coming to JIBE at least 2 or 3 days. Hoping to do some buggying on SSI as well... love those sunset sessions on East Beach!

TEDWESLEY - 30-4-2021 at 02:33 PM

There has been a great upgrade of the beach access at the old commercial center. Now the Oceanview Beach Park.
The former steps are now a ramp the width of the one at Great Dunes. Lots of parking and the beach to the south, is vacant
and abuts Kite Beach. "This is where your Parking Fee Money goes"
The beaches are quite flat right now. Few and shallow tide pools to be had for the quick cooling dip.

You know you want to come and ride!

flyhighWNY - 1-5-2021 at 04:45 PM

I can't wait.

Thanks Ted for being our eyes and ears on the ground. Getting Psyched.

BeamerBob - 2-5-2021 at 06:48 AM

That's exciting that the beach is flat and smooth again. It will be nice to let it fly down the beach.

soliver - 3-5-2021 at 07:01 PM

I've decided to make JIBE 2021 my last kiting Hurrah... its time.

Just posted another thread with all my gear for sale at JIBE

I herby resign my post as president of the Janky Wind Club and set aside all of the benefits and social standings there within.

RedSky - 4-5-2021 at 04:37 AM

Oh soliver. Makes me sad to read that. Hope the sale goes well and that your last Hurrah will be an outstanding one. All the best to you and family. Take care. :)

Me too. If it wasn't for soliver I probably never would have gotten into kite buggy because he found the spots locally to ride and met up with me when I was just getting started to show me how it all worked and how much fun it was. Good luck.

soliver - 4-5-2021 at 12:55 PM

Thanks guys! Much appreciated! ... just know that instill have an overstuffed bag of single and double line nylon eye candy that won't be leaving me....

Who knows, I may end up with a Rev before the next beach trip. :D

mystainedskin - 5-5-2021 at 06:39 AM

Skip Rev....Go with Kiteforge Djinn!
Just saying ;)
Be in Wednesday, you are welcome to try a quiver out.

acampbell - 8-5-2021 at 03:00 PM

Leaving the house (rig) at 4:00 am tomorrow for El Paso Airport. Staying on mainland near exit 29 and our rented storage space. Will pick up the UHaul truck Monday AM. See all y'all soon; can't wait to see the "new" beach.

Good thing it wasn't yesterday Angus, I saw part of the thread on Friend of Jekyll Isl. where the first post was: "Is anyone hearing about a sniper at the I-95 overpass and exit 29 in JI. Police everywhere etc...?"
and one of the replies was: "Swat team sniper. Crazy naked guy near truck stop"

Missing all the fun again.... have a good JIBE

Yeah, that was prolly an old neighbor of ours...

That's where I'm going to get stuff out of storage.

We'll miss you guys. Next year we'll get the whole band back together.

flyhighWNY - 9-5-2021 at 05:00 PM

Just curious. Will/does anyone have setup for tandems. Xtra buggy &tow bar? And might they be willing to share? Chavez a few friends and family looking for rides and my tandem setup is not complete yet. Any help would be appreciated.
Brian the pirate

soliver - 9-5-2021 at 06:12 PM

I have a hitch and tow bar you can use, ... its available for purchase as well if you're interested.

flyhighWNY - 9-5-2021 at 09:51 PM

Ty Spencer. I'm interested. I will see u on the beach.
Brian

soliver - 10-5-2021 at 05:27 PM

Hey guys, good day today in spite of cruddy wind. Good to see you guys out on the beach. I'll be back on Wednesday, but thats all.

I updated the thread on my gear for sale, so check that out if we've discussed something via U2U or email.

markite - 14-5-2021 at 12:53 PM

It looks like nice wind today, I've been watching on the web cam to see someone fly by
Also see posts that the Golden Ray salvage is on fire today and a lot of smoke between Jekyll and St Simons!

I can see a couple of kites top the far right 0 south end of the web cam field of view but whoever is bugging keeps stopping and turning before coming down by the holiday Inn for the web cams

Randy - 15-5-2021 at 06:16 AM

Had to leave Friday AM, but it was great to be back on the beaches, and to see friends old and new!! Thanks to Angus for making it all happen.

BTW - did anyone see the fire from the capsized ship? Made the 6pm news.

mystainedskin - 15-5-2021 at 07:28 AM

Looks like we are some of the last around..(came in late).along with Philip and family.
Despite howling wind.....it has been a pleasure meeting and seeing you all again.... Most of all riding :)
Thanks Errol for hooking Rebecca up with some tandem fun. She was down with such strong wind... and you made her smile and the trip worth while.
Hoping for better wind today and tomorrow, but smiles either way!
Until our paths cross again.

Hey Randy I was on the Golden Isle web cam - cams on the beach by Holiday Inn and also the St Simons Cam and one of the views was showing the Golden Ray fire. some good shots on the Friends of Jekyll Facebook pages

Randy - 16-5-2021 at 05:27 AM

Now I realize that I had veen seeing the wreck all week. I couldn't figure out what I was looking at until seeing the pictures in the paper yesterday. What a mess!

Demoknight - 16-5-2021 at 06:51 AM

Sorry to miss you guys again Mark! I hope next year is a possibility for you and Fiona to visit your friends in the south!

Scott it was my pleasure! I loved her reaction when I was able to throw a couple down turns and whip us around headed down wind.

BeamerBob - 16-5-2021 at 07:26 PM

The north tip of the island was going to be my way of kiting Friday and the fire was sending noxious plasticy smelling smoke right of the end of the island. I took a pic of it from driftwood beach but not easy to post here.

Tuesday was my day this year. Got in 50 miles with some proximity riding with Angus while both of us flew our 15m Phantoms. It was nice to have a smooth beach again!

I tried to run to the north end but they've worked on it for beach erosion protection right after the high wall of rip rap. They've put medium sized stones where our path between the trees used to be and the trees on the ocean side are gone. I didn't get another low tide to recon if the path is really blocked promptly at low tide.

It was great to see some old and some new friends and get to ride there with them! Maybe it will be a grand reunion next year.

We drove home Saturday. No problems finding gas.

Randy - 17-5-2021 at 05:28 AM

How do you get to the north beach? Looked like you would have to take a path to get there.

BTW - the beach was nicer than any time I remember (and I've been coming since 2014). Thursday it was hard packed up to all but the last 10 feet. Looking forward to JIBE 2022 already. Any ideas for the dates?

Jack.Oh - 17-5-2021 at 07:06 AM

Hi all, it was great to get to meet all of you and see those I know from Wildwood. Thanks Angus for hosting. Spencer, thank you for honoring me with the Peak it will be put to good use. Over all my boys and I had a great time and we look forward to getting there for 2022.

D Cheek - 17-5-2021 at 08:39 AM

As a brother kiter once said about his screw up at Ivanpah... life got in the way. Well, It happened to me this year and I apologize to all.

I own and operate 2 business's and employ 7 people until lately. CoVid, stimulus checks and drugs cut my staff to 3. Me, my wife and 1 artist.

Well, my screen printer and his wife who also worked for me, 3 kids, a nanny, a big pay check and 6 stimulus checks made them just stop coming to work! Why work when you got over 10k in your pocket? They then pumped 5k worth of crack in their veins, swerved a car, got busted, put in jail for at least 6 months, kids to Child Services and the nanny was all of a sudden homeless. What a mess!

With several thousand dollars in orders in house my wife and I have been busting our ass's to 11pm every night trying to get the work out the door and keep up on the bills. To make a long story shorter, as much as I wanted and needed to come to JIBE this year it was impossible.

For the last 10 years JIBE has been the highlight of my year and there's going to be hole in my heart till next year when I can again have fellowship and fun with everybody on the white sands of Jekyll Island.

The 2021 JIBE shirt will be posted here on PKW in a couple of days. I'll have a good deal for those that want to order, and i'll pay the postage. Hope you all had a good time. Please accept my most sincere apology for missing seeing and being with everybody on the beach.

Check back soon for a look at the official 2021 JIBE t-shirt and ordering instructions if you want any.

Good winds for all, Davis AKA D Cheeks

3shot - 17-5-2021 at 01:48 PM

We hope to make a reunion trip next year as well. Been too long. Miss the kite family. Each and every one of ya.

At low tide and with a mostly onshore wind, you just keep heading north. If the old path actually is still there, you just wind your way past the dead fallen and standing trees till it breaks out to the open beach.

Randy - 19-5-2021 at 02:41 PM

Thanks Bob. I'll keep that in mind next time there is a North wind.

markite - 19-5-2021 at 09:47 PM

things have changed a bit since this 2015 video but this covers running from north tip to south water tower

BeamerBob - 20-5-2021 at 07:57 AM

Awesome ride Mark. Either I was never at driftwood beach at proper low tide this year or the sand below the rocks is gone now.

Jack.Oh - 21-5-2021 at 06:00 AM

Really cool.
