Playa Tires

I have bought a few different ones. Carlisle and Power King are two I gravitate to.

I have a local shop install them on my 4.8x8" on Sysmic aluminum rims.

I have never had a puncture in the 7 yrs and hundreds of miles at Ivanpah.

I do replace them EVERY year I go back to IBX. My riding style is brutal on tires and my front tire is usually at more of a drag than rolling angle (aimed upwind and throwing dust everywhere. A normal person will last many years with a set of 6-ply.

I bought the Power King last time from Walmart and had them delivered to my house. $33 each and free shipping. Although they do stick a big UPS label on the sidewall of each tire which is a MAJOR pain to remove!

BTW...(although this pic seems to deny this...) Carlyle Sport Trail did not fit very well between the forks on my Libre but they do work on the backs. Notice how tight it looks in the front. Even the Power King's needed an extra washer on either side to allow them to fit in the fork.




So I have a Power King on front and two Carlisle on back of the Libre and three Power Kings on the Ivanpah Buggy and on the Peter Lynn.

Are you mounting on plastic rims or are you lucky enough to have aluminum rims?

I think you will be happy with any of these.

It is this counter steer, extreme studly over powered kite selection, and ultra low (dare we say, scraping) seating position that earned iPaul the venerable playa name: VAPOR TRAILS

I run essentially the same tire as Jeepersjoey on the playa. I ride in a, shall we say, more gentlemanly fashion, and I've gotten a little more life from my tires than he has earning his VAPOR TRAILS moniker. These are the ones I bought:

Hijack away Bob! I've wondered the same thing about Vapor Trail's rig. My very first buggy was a Folding PL and it was possible to move the seat quite a bit fore and aft by adjusting the webbing, etc. I distinctly found a sweet spot. I recall getting my weight too far forward and my tail used to fish out (on grass).

I've seen weights attached in various spots on larger, magnificent racing buggies. UtahTami has them if I recall correctly as well as the Israelites and some of the Oregonians.

Being as iPaul is a strict carnivore, maybe he could strap a large Salami to the underside of the down tube. While it would doubtless affect the weight balance, if he hungered throughout the day he could nibble on it (starting at the back of course to keep maximum weight forward).
