Hey All!
Well I joined this forum quite a while ago interested in getting into power kiting. And today my 5 meter Haka arrived in the mail! This has been something I have wanted for a couple years and now I am excited like
a kid in a candy store. Unfortunately my kite didn't come with killers. Being new to this I am apprehesive to fly without them. Especially since I am
deployed in the desert and if the kite gets away from me it could end up in some razor wire. :o As soon as I get a chance to fly her I will post a
review...... Weeeeeeee......
SecondWind - 30-5-2007 at 08:55 PM
Sounds good Greg - what are your winds like over there?
danakachewy - 31-5-2007 at 07:10 AM
Tell me how u get along i am intrested in buying one of these kites
thercman - 31-5-2007 at 08:38 AM
The winds vary. Most days they seem to be great at about 6 - 12mph. Unfortunately I work from noon to midnight and only have off one day a week.
Having some extra time to fly is tough but I will work it out.
dana,
I sure will. I am planning to write a review on the kite from a newbies point of view..... I can say that the kite is very well put together.
Exceptional build quality would be the best way to put it....
danakachewy - 31-5-2007 at 01:26 PM
gr8 u recomend it?
nd its dan lol

Worst case if you want to get a flight in before you can source some KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s, you should be able to use a peice of line. Attach it to where
the KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s would go on the brake leads coming off the handles and then either use a large larkshead to your wrist or better yet, make it
longer and attach it to your belt, Of course learn to fly in lighter winds as well.
This is not a replacement for KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s, simply something you can do to keep your kite safe until the KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s arrive.
KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s will be safer, most KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s have a way to quickly release them in case of an emergency.

Man you are lucky. I was just asking about that kite. can't wait to hear review.
thercman - 1-6-2007 at 02:56 PM
Thanks! I have been wanting an Ozone kite for a long long time...lol Today I placed an order to http://www.Mistralkites.com for a set of Ozone killers and a Powerkite magazine. I have never seen mag that before. It looks cool.
Sthrasher38 - 1-6-2007 at 03:06 PM
What other kites do you have?
thercman - 1-6-2007 at 03:24 PM
I have an old Black Rainbow Jam, Prism Micron and a Revolution SLE 1.5. This is my first power kite. :D
Sthrasher38 - 1-6-2007 at 03:27 PM
What are you doing on the computer! Go fly your kite!
thercman - 2-6-2007 at 01:32 AM
I wish! I am deployed to the desert and working 72 hour weeks. Its tough to find the time. You know I'm jonesin.... :D
Sthrasher38 - 2-6-2007 at 05:55 PM
( Things that can not be avoided, Must be endured.)
thercman - 3-6-2007 at 07:13 AM
So true! But I am getting burned out. One can only endure so much. If I had to it all over again, I wouldn't.
danakachewy - 20-6-2007 at 10:25 AM
Hows the haka flying? im getting one next month so cant wait! Do you have any pics of the kite as i have barley seen the colours and soon shall be
choosing!
thercman - 21-6-2007 at 12:55 AM
Hey!
I flew it for the second time yesterday. I must say it flies great! Very smooth and it will fly fast. Tons of pull. After about 5 minutes I was
breathing heavy and handing the handles to my buddy so I could take a break. I'll get a couple pics up soon....
thercman - 21-6-2007 at 12:58 AM
Heres a pic.
thercman - 21-6-2007 at 01:07 AM
Another
danakachewy - 21-6-2007 at 10:41 AM
Great. Thats the colour that im thinking of getting. It looks more aggresive then the other colours i think.
Sthrasher38 - 21-6-2007 at 01:06 PM
NICE!!
flyhigh142 - 21-6-2007 at 08:20 PM
I have a 5 meter coming next week in Orange/Grey/Yellow. Can't wait. I am a little disappointed they don't come with KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s, though. Some
excellent shots can be found here:
http://www.extremekites.com.au
The site isn't working as I post, but was earlier today.
thercman - 11-7-2007 at 03:01 AM
Yeah, I was a little dissapointed about that as well. For the price they definitely should be included. They are must for safety. So far I am happy
with the kite. How about you?
flyhigh142 - 11-7-2007 at 06:55 AM
I just took my 5 meter Haka out buggying for the first time yesterday. Not having KS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s did create a problem when a friend tried it. He
has much more experience, and will remain un-named, but got hit by a big blast and lost it. Luckily, another friend was downwind to slow its race to
freedom and no harm was done.
I did have a minor problem with the tuning on mine - in lighter winds, it was difficult to launch, and it wanted to just fall out of the air. They
weren't THAT light, as Gilligan was buggying well behind his Blade III 3. After loosening the brake lines, it still appeared to have a mild crease
halfway through the sail, so I removed the connector between the bridles and lines, and reversed the stacking order of the bridle lines, thereby
shortening by just a hint the fronts and incrementally loosening the other three that attach at the same spot. I hope this is understandable as I
wrote it, since it seemed to help. It was just the tiniest little adjustment, but I did have a better session afterward, until I looked up while at
speed and had an "Oh S@#%T!" moment. I TOTALLY forgot about that huge pile of dirt. Never been airborne before. I got the Grey/ Orange/Yellow version,
and except for the light layer of dust, is absolutely gorgeous! I thought the strop was a bit on the short side, limiting turning speed. I also
wouldn't use much, if any brake while turning. BUY ONE!
flyhigh142 - 11-7-2007 at 06:58 AM
One more thing - You can really get the Haka to climb even when its light by strongly pumping the handles toward you a few times. Maybe this is
something most kites do, and is common practice. I just figured it out.
awindofchange - 11-7-2007 at 12:17 PM
The Haka is a higher aspect ratio kite and you have to fly it aggressively at times. In light winds the kite will have a tendency to stall and
"flatten" out a little. As flyhigh said one sharp snap pump of the lines and the kite should puff out and take off like a rocket. The kite also has
a tendency to turn sideways in the light stuff. Just wait for it to get sideways and one or two pumps and the kite takes off. You can fly it in the
lightest of winds (even no wind) as long as you keep the kite flying all the time. In light winds the kite doesn't like to sit in one spot, keep it
moving.
You can park and ride this kite and lay down some awesome speeds, this kite is FAST!! Once the kite is parked and you get hauling, slap the kite
around a little and it is like a turbo charger kicking in.
Sthrasher38 - 11-7-2007 at 01:51 PM
You have a blade 6.6 and have never been airbourn?
flyhigh142 - 11-7-2007 at 02:06 PM
I've never been airborn in my buggy, at least nothing to write home about. That info helps me a lot, Windofchange. I was wondering why it would turn
sideways in the light stuff. It really does take off when you pump it, whether sideways while in motion, or straight up when static flying. I love it,
and feel Ozone has really designed a classic with this one.
Sthrasher38 - 11-7-2007 at 02:09 PM
How do you like the blade 6.6 for static flying? What are the best conditions for that kite? Thanks.
flyhigh142 - 11-7-2007 at 03:57 PM
It's great for static flying, but like most larger kites, it's kinda slow in turns. When you bring it around and down through the widow in any but the
lowest winds, you'll be scudding for sure! A little brake really helps the turn rate. HUGE lift, which I really haven't begun to explore 'cause I'm a
51 year old relative chicken, compared to an 18 year old who's never been hurt. I'll get arond to it eventually, but I'd rather have some instruction
from a fellow flier who can say (as I'm laying there in a crumpled heap) "Hmmm, you should have pulled left a little sooner there, buddy, watch me".
Videos and animations, as good as they are, just don't give you the hands on help I'd prefer.
Sthrasher38 - 11-7-2007 at 04:05 PM
Being new and at 40 I'm ready to push it a little. (Saftey first also.) I know what you are saying about trying to jump pretty scary way to get
respect first before trying to jump. Let me know if you ever want to part with that blade ok? after getting a Haka what more could you want? man I
love the look of that kite! Take care.
cosmicwind - 19-7-2007 at 10:17 PM
I received my 3 M Haka last Friday and flew it for the first time last Sunday and so far my first impression of it is one of a superiorly built and
designed kite, very fast and just plain beautiful. Although I'm not an expert, static-flying the kite in approximately 12 to 17 mph wind was a blast,
and pumping the handles while traveling sideways in the power zone was like a super charger kicking in. The Haka also generate tremendous pull and
although i dont know how to jump yet am almost sure this is a kite i'll learn from. It doesn't come with KK though and in order for anyone to fly it
effectively on a buggy one must change the strop to a longer one.
My Haka was courtesy of www.awindofchange.com and it arrived in 2 days after ordering with a free killer Ozone t shirt. Thanks Kent!!!
awindofchange - 20-7-2007 at 12:36 PM
Glad you like the Haka. One awesome kite for sure. Hope the T-shirt works for you as well. Get that Haka in a buggy or board and you'll really
love it. The strop that comes with the Ozone kites is quite short and really needs to be a bit longer, especially if your using it in the buggy. I
think they should include the kite killers instead of the strop...but that's just me.
Anyways, let us know how it goes for you!
