Lookin for a good place to board IN Las Vegas

primekutzz - 1-6-2007 at 11:21 PM

I'm starting to board and would like to find a place locally in the Greater Las Vegas area that would provide adequate space, minimal obstructions, and of course flat. I'm aware that I can go to Ivanpah Dry Lake bed a bad ass time but I'd also like to not drive so far. I need to keep it close to home.

Well any park will do with adequete space. We manage to do it at Sam Boyd on Friday nights, though the wind is a little squirrelly sometimes over there.

Capt. Ron and myself often get together on El Dorado Valley Dry Lake Bed in Boulder City, spurr of the moment or if we know it's supposed to blow hard, rather than driving to Ivanpah. We also live in Henderson, so it's a hop skip and a jump away. If you live clear across town from there, then Ivanpah is your best bet. Jean isn't that much closer, so I would say if your not in Henderson/Boulder City area and a park is not in the equation, then really it's Ivanpah or bust bro.

Heard about a spot on Tenaya and Gowan. It's a water retention basin with a dog park in it so no problems with public access. Don't know how clean winds would be there. I'm going out to try on Tuesday or Wednesday. Forcast states there's wind a comin'.

my experience at Desert Breeze and in general is that the wind in a basin like area is usually crap, but it might have somthing worth investigiting none the less

So I take it you are not near Henderson?

Also, I hear what you are saying about Friday nights not always being windy, but the winds usually pick up when the sun starts to set any day that ends in "y". Besides, even if the wind isnt up you can still come to the park and meet the crowd, and maybe do some sport kite flying if the wind is down. I had to yesterday because of an injury. It's actually not to bad.

I stopped by the catch basin @ Tenaya and Gowan and found it all fenced in. If there is an entrance, I couldn't find it.
