SOBB '07 questions

khooke - 10-6-2007 at 10:31 PM

I emailed the 2 email addresses on the SOBB website about 2 weeks back, but haven't had any reply yet, but I'm thinking anyone who has attended before in the past can probably answer my questions - so here's what I was asking in my email:

- do we have to register before hand, and/or do we have to check in when we arrive?
- is there any registration cost?
- we're planning on camping with our popup camper - where is the nearest campground, can we camp near or on the beach?
- are dogs allowed on the beach, on or off leash?

Thanks!

OMG, I just found out I have that week off. Can anyone say ROADTRIP!!!!!!

sunset-Jim - 11-6-2007 at 07:21 AM

There isn't any registration nor check-in. It does help however to have some idea of how many and who might be coming. It's a pretty much just show up and let's have fun kind of event.

I haven't heard for certain for this year, but at previous events one of our locals here has opened up his property for attendees to camp at. I can find out for sure on that one. Another alternative is an RV park that is pretty much right off the beach :
http://sunsetlake.faithweb.com/

Unfortunately there isn't any camping on the beach.

There is "technically" a leash law, but you would never know it. It's pretty common to see doggies running around. Somehow they love the beach as much as we do... The leash law is pretty much there to be used for the unresponsiable pet owners. So as long as your pet isn't chasing cars or attacking anybody, it's fine to let them run loose.

I do have one tip especially for those of you from "warmer" climates. Bring a jacket. It can typically be 40 degrees cooler here than what you are use to there in SacraTomato or in Vegas. We don't give it much thought here because that's what we are use to, but it might get your attention.. :wow: :wow:

Hope that naswers your questions and look forward ta seeing ya... :tumble:

Hey Centex, the link in this thread still works

http://powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=1475

Me and the girl are debating driving versus flying as it's our first time that far north. Can anyone tell us if it's worth it to drive up some of Highway 101 some of the way from the San Fran area up on north?

archkiter - 14-6-2007 at 03:38 PM

the drive along 101 is beautiful but much slower then I-5

Kiteboarder2B - 14-6-2007 at 05:22 PM

So I've heard. I've also heard that much of it isnt really worth driving, and that there are some key points here and there, but mostly it's best to drive it from north to south and that the south was what was actually the most scenic. Either way sure we wil have a blast.

Bladerunner - 15-6-2007 at 01:46 PM

Hey Pab's,

I was half hoping that the good fellow who let you pitch tent last September still has the land. If not I expect I'll stay at the ( sunset lake ) park previously recommended. Between kite gear and camping gear I expect to have a pretty full car. If need be, I could send some gear with you and take a passenger.

Pablo - 15-6-2007 at 07:12 PM

Shouldn't be a problem, I'll have a trailer for both trips, Staying at the camp ground for the July weekend, hoping to crash at Buggy Town for the SOBB. Kite storyies are always better when told around a bunch of good friends.

Bladerunner - 21-6-2007 at 05:54 PM

Booked my spot at sunset lake ! Looks like I'm in

seaside_Tyson - 21-6-2007 at 10:58 PM

having drive the ENTIRE west coast of the US this spring, the best sections are 101 from the oregon border north and mendocino county in CA. VERY slow, but absolutely worth it. plus you get to see some of the cheesy roadside attractions like the drive thru tree and stuff.... dork-tastic!

sunset-Jim - 22-6-2007 at 06:30 AM

I talked to Phil (the owner) and buggy town is a go for SOBB. Just contact Jon for details. That is if THAT SOB ever makes his way back to the NW...:frog:

seaside_Tyson - 24-6-2007 at 11:04 PM

zloty - 16-8-2007 at 11:25 PM

Hey Pablo what days will You be there? We missed each other next to entrance gate last Year when You where loading those rumps I was gonna hit.

Pablo - 17-8-2007 at 09:44 AM

Yup, aquired Eli's old ramp, had to figure out how to get it on the trailer with all our other gear. I'm thinking that I'll be there for sure Fri-mon on the long weekend. Look for the fellow with the PKD kites and the white VW golf. Jim and Jon know me as well and can point you in the right direction.

jellis - 17-8-2007 at 11:05 AM

Hey Pablo I could stop and wait for you to catch up so you can tag my axle but I don't have that much time.:D
