The kite scene in New York?

domdino - 5-7-2007 at 09:34 AM

Hiya,

So i've been talking with a friend about the possibility of moving to new york, the only thing that's stopping me is that i'm concerned about there being no where to kitesurf/kite landboard...

Can anyone give me any info on there being anywhere good to landboard/kitesurf around NY someplace? :bird:

You may want to pose that question on http://www.kiteforum.com/phpbb/ or check out http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/neks/

Both of those forums are frequented by the MA and CT kiters.

I know a kiter was killed last year in long island sound and I'm pretty sure there are at least a few riders down that way and I know there are other traction guys in the Wildwood, NJ area.

Maybe check here... They have NE locations/descriptions broken down by state.

Dunno which particular areas of NY you had in mind (if any) , but I found out today via a call to the Westchester County Parks Department that "Under county law, you are not allowed to fly kites at any county park. If you want to do so, you'd have to go to a city park."

Sorry I've no happy news...but figured this information is useful if you're really considering moving, and are scouting for kitesites beforehand.
