Did Curiousity kill the cat? Has anyone ever heard of using dye on a kite? Because of prolonged use or wear? Or can the dye break down the material or

I've not heard of it, i think your question is best sent to the manufacturer; with relation to the dye you intend to use.
Flexifoil particularly are really helpful with questions like that; as far as my experience. So i'd imagine they will send your question onto their
technitians.
Materials like chikara nylon are pretty clever matierals, so i'd be dubious about dying them or anything, so yeah; i'd recommend asking the
manufacturer.

I do know that dyes take to natural fibers. Since kite material is not natural then I would not think trying to dye a kte would be the way to go.

Ditto what susan said dyes wont take to already treated fabric.
but there is a paint that can be applied to nylon made by designmaster if your looking to add a stencil or graphic
most modern wings today have a UV inhibitor already...
the biggest factor on wings is salt from the air if you fly by the sea ....salt acts lake very fine crushed glass that works over the stiching..
{ that reminds me }also there is a product call 303 that also on the same web site posted above
a 3M product that "helps" reduce fading nylon but you have to reapply it now and again.
But I wouldn't worrie about it.... sun has a great effect on everything no matter how much protectent you use
