Finally got my 1st kite! Got a package deal with a 3m Beamer III and a Scrub Deimos ATB & Helmet. Not been out on the board with the kite yet, but
had the kite out on its own and been trying the board out on its own on some grassy slopes. Bought the kite when I was on holiday in South Wales, had
the kite flying on Tenby South Beach and also on Pendine, had a great time with it on Pendine, over 2 hours I was out with it, my arms were hanging
off the next morning when I got up!
My 1st time flying a powerkite and I seem to have picked up the basics pretty quick, was surprised at how controllable the thing is, had a couple of
crashes to begin with, sort of oversteering the kite and getting in a tangle but after 20-30 mins I could keep the kite in the air with no problems,
had good fun diving it and turning it, managed a little scudding although the wind wasnt mega strong. Hopefully get the kite out back here home in
Scotland this weekend, get a bit more practice with it and pluck up the courage to head off to Ayr Beach to try it with the board!

Remember to ride the board down the hill both ways, left foot forward and right foot forward. You'll have to do both when riding it with the kite.

Thanks for the welcome!
Yeah I've only been riding it on one side so far so I'll try it on the other side now, should be easier to learn both sides when I'm learning it
totally from scratch anyway rather than getting good at one side then trying the other? If the rain goes off today I'll take it back up the field I
was practicing in and give it a bash. Hoping to get the kite out at the weekend, theres a good flat football park down the road from me but its in a
bit of a dip with trees along one side so not sure if the wind will be much good?
Never having flown a power kite before I don't have anything to compare it too but I've been impressed with it so far, do you reckon it'll be big
enough to do some proper long scudding with as I was only going a couple of meters when I had it on Pendine? Think the wind was maybe a bit light,
although could be me as well not knowing how to do it properly.
Thats me in my avatar out on Pendine with it the 2nd time I flew it
Got the girlfriend to take some pics!

Hey Andy, I was out yesterday on the New Jersey shore line with winds only about 15mph with my Beamer III 2 meter and I was scudding about 8 feet.
Your 3 meter is well set to pull you a good distance.

Excellent yeah I suspect the wind wasnt strong enough, it was just a light sea breeze really, kinda getting scared of it in proper winds now, hahaha!
Our forecast is for wind but its gusty and gales so no good for kiting really, I'm hoping its settled down a bit more by Saturday as I'm gonna take
the kite out again if I can.
Is there any major technique for scudding? All I was doing was sort of diving the kite and turning it in a sort of figure of eight pattern and as it
turned and dived down it pulled me along a few foot.

That's what you do. You can also spin it in circles for awhile to keep it in the power window. Enjoy your kite. I really love mine. It is very
refined and forgiving. When the wind gets a little stronger and you get more skills, you won't be so afraid to take it out in more wind. That fear
is a good thing.

Try some knee pads hard plastic ones.Lean way back with a helmet on You'll be suprised how fast you can go!
andy_sj - 15-8-2007 at 03:26 AM
Yeah knee and elbow pads are next on the shopping list, bought a helmet with the board and the kite. Been practicing on a steeper bit of grass now,
starting to get the hang of it a bit more, I suspect it will be easier with the kite as you'll be able to lean against the pull of the kite to balance
I guess? I've been told to sort of go across the wind a bit rather than straight on into it as you'll have nothing to lean against to balance then.

Remember the Beamer III will fly on a bar just as well if you want to try that on the 'board. Makes riding toeside easier/ possible.
andy_sj - 17-8-2007 at 02:46 AM
Yeah I've looked at some bars, maybe something to consider at a later date once I get a bit better. Since I got the kite the weathers been crap here,
either wet or else dry but with no wind! Haha, typical!
