ONE OF US NEEDS ALL OF US... NOW!

Lack-O-Slack - 28-8-2007 at 03:27 PM

Greetings, fellow NABX family!

One of our number, Charles "AJ" Jackson, has suffered a horrible life-crisis; his boat, upon which he lived, burned today, taking our beloved Caddo, his wonderful dog, with it.

I don't have more information yet, but I know AJ's gonna need help, comfort, friends (that's ALL of us), and probably good old fashioned greenbacks... everything he owned was on that boat.

Please get ready, and I or someone will post information, and let's all reach in our wallets, no matter how thin, and get a fund going to help AJ recover from this disaster.

You all helped me with my legal battle, now it's an opportunity for me to give some back, and for us all to help a family member whose lost his best friend and his home!

Please spread the word and the generosity...

-Dooley :(

That's teribble to hear that happening to anyone. Post the details as you get them and if there will be an account set up for donations.

Taper123 - 29-8-2007 at 05:59 AM

I posted a quick note about this last night on the KiteShark group (The Local Houston Kite Club). Several people were asking if there was a place to make a donation... so I posted the info about the DBBB site on there as well. AJ is a great guy, and all of us are willing to help in any way that we can.

GulfSandEater - 29-8-2007 at 07:26 AM

AJ,

I just met you this weekend at SLP. If you need a place to stay, let me know; I live on the west side of Houston.

Thanks everyone! I know a lot of you knew Caddo and knew how he shaped my life.He had been on my side for along time. I spent so much time with him.He was my best friend and help me thru so very hard times in my past.He went with me everywhere! He was treated more as family member with my friends and family. He was laid to rest yesterday at San Luis Pass. It is a place were he had spent several hundred days with me, chasing me in the buggy and marking every spot on the beach as his own. He had made 6 DBBB and the past 2 yrs made it to the playa. He was so faithful and always a happy dog.He sailed over 1800 miles last yr on my boat and was the best first mate.I will truly miss him. We spent last weekend at the beach and made 2 sailing trips to the bay.

Details:

A fire broke out on my boat on Tuesday about 1pm. The boat interior is a total loss. A box fan started the fire. Most of my belonging are burned, sooted and water soaked. At this time I am waiting on insurance company to look it over. I am hoping to move back to the water as soon as I can. Until i will be staying with my brother in houston.

Take care and please say a small prayer for my best friend………….aj

AJ

Words can not express how I feel right now. I am still having trouble grasping what happened.

Take care.

Susan

centex_buggier - 29-8-2007 at 11:20 AM

AJ
Susan expressed exactly how I feel. Caddo was part of the buggy gang and will be missed.

Take care, and call me if I can help with anything.

Steve.

Lack-O-Slack - 29-8-2007 at 12:43 PM

Ah, good to hear from you at last, AJ, though I sincerely wish it were better news.

Caddo, a "survivor" if there ever was one, after his CoreyLama dog food experience, will be sorely missed. His was a spirit one could feel and see, and not all dogs have it, in my experience. My condolences to you on the loss of a great friend and companion, and yes, I believe dogs have souls and go to Heaven, where, after all, they were obviously made. Unconditional love is the dog's daily fare, and Caddo shared his quite openly, as we all observed.

I hope that your insurance is not slow in helping you, and until then, we will make donations at the DBBB site, as Dave suggested, so you have some cash to draw on, during the bureaucratic phase of your insurance claim.

I hope I'll still see you at Niagara, but I understand if you don't make it, in light of events.

My prayers and meditations are sent your way, and I'm glad you've got family to provide shelter for the time being; you've always got a place to land in sunny San Diego.

God Bless...

-Dooley

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss AJ - we wish you the best,

AJ
My wife Joan and I read this and hugged our dogs and said a prayer. I can't imagine. I hope you are able to get back on your keel soon. Sounds like Caddo will be with you. Keep us posted.

Sorry to throw this off topic ... When I go the DBBB website, do I use the "Contribute to DBBB" to make the donatation to AJ?

All the best, from the U-Turn Team

kitemaker4 - 29-8-2007 at 07:13 PM

Yes that is what we are asking people to do and just make a note on paypal that it is for AJ.

Thanks
Susan

Fundraiser for AJ

There will be an auction the evening of Saturday 29 September 2007 at the Niagara International Kite festival with all proceeds going to AJ.

Auction Items should be clearly marked for ‘AJ’ and sent to:

Meg Robinson-Albers
250 Richmond Avenue
Buffalo, New York 14222-1929

716-881-4436 land
716-348-8461 mobile

meg@kitehistory.com

The auction will be both a silent auction held early in the evening for smaller items and a loud auction after dinner for the higher priced items.

Please help me gather auction donations by contacting any potential contributors you can think of …be it individuals, retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, artists…and not just in the kite and traction world but also items that are valuable to us from other industries we use frequently like camping, sailing, and the travel world as well.

Be creative and use your imagination…I know this group is extremely clever and unique and now is the time to put those brains to work!

None of us can bring Caddo back, but we can make sure AJ feels our love and support as he rebuilds his life.

Thank You Very Much in advance for your generosity and contribution.

~Meg

What a great group!

Lack-O-Slack - 31-8-2007 at 12:32 PM

Why did I just KNOW that this "family" would pull together like this?

I am so glad to see these responses, and to know that AJ's not gonna face this test alone.

Good on all of y'all... wish we all lived in the same neighborhood! Oh, wait... perhaps this demonstrates that, indeed, we do!

Thanks everyone, it brings a tear to my eye of all the support that yall have provided me in this tough time. I've spent the week trying to go though the remains of my belonging. I spent a special morning yesterday at Caddo resting spot, planting flowers and flying a kite in his meomery. Thanks again for everything!........................aj

You are most welcome, brother

Lack-O-Slack - 4-9-2007 at 03:00 PM

No thanks are needed AJ...

You are family, Caddo is family, and I've learned that most of us take it quite seriously, and act like family, as happened with my challenge from the legal sector, and the great support I obtained via this network of great people.

Glad that what we can do is helping, and glad that you got the opportunity to fly for Caddo and say the props.

I think I can speak for many in here and say that you're in our hearts, our minds, and our prayers; God bless you as you reconstruct your life, and get things back on track again.

Sure hope your "Flappin' Rags" survived.... Glenn would be so disappointed if you couldn't remain one of our favorite "Rag Flappers".

Keep smilin' thru the pain, and soon only your face will hurt. :)

What can I say that has not already been said by someone else on this group ?
You my friend are in our thoughts and Caddo in our prayers.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you at this time and don' hesitate to ask.....I will see you in Niagara.

AJ,
Just got back from Burning Man to this news.
I don't even want to try to find the words to express my sadness.
I had so much more to make up for with Catto.
A magnificent dog and a magnificent friend.

The money is only a token of my feelings for you.

Anything else you need, just holler.
