joecat - 2-10-2007 at 05:48 PM

Hey,, It was a good time..... I was suprized we actually had about 12 buggyers show up.... over the two day period,,, for a first time it was good. The weather wasn't bad,,,, Saturday morning good wind going on. The beach here in Wildwood is very nice,, big. Brian showed up with official WWBB tee-shirts... We should get another going,,,, diffently next year if not sooner,,,, spring time would be nice... Also any buggyers get to the Wildwood New Jersey Area let us know so we can meet down there. Yes I am spoiled,,,, I live only 15 minutes from the beach.......

leebrianh - 2-10-2007 at 06:07 PM

Ye, it was definitely a good time. Wind got weaker on Saturday afternoon but wind direction got better later. I was actually able to ride along the beach with my 10M Flysurfer kite. Of course, Glenn's gone too far, I thought he left early :spin:

Thanks to Don @ kiteplace.com who organized the event. Thanks to NJ Buggy Club members who showed up and made the event possible. It's just a beginning. It's just too fun to have it only once a year, right?

Pictures coming soon. NJ Buggy Club - Brian

I had a really awesome time. Everyone there was super-friendly, and it was a great feeling just to be around other buggiers. (this was the first event I've attended...)
Watching you folks kite and buggy so well gave me lots more hope and inspiration to continue improving my own skills.

Definitely too much fun to do only once a year.

Though next time I'll be bringing more Gatorade and treats....and sunscreen... Definitely will never forget the sunscreen ever again...

Thank you Brian and Don and everyone for creating this event here in the Northeast. I can't wait to go again.

Great pictures brian... And Don makes it look sooooo easy! But I know once you get it down it does become second nature, thats one of the really cool parts of doing it.

kitemaker4 - 3-10-2007 at 09:23 AM

Hey Brian

Is that Jake in the pics from Wildwood.

Susan

domdino - 3-10-2007 at 09:28 AM

Does anyone know anyone from New York City who i could meet and carpool with maybe????! :) I'd love to come and pull out my landboard for a bit :) :) the poor old thing hardly sees the light of day anymore

domdino - 3-10-2007 at 09:29 AM

oops, i just looked at the days :( :( sob

lunchbox - 3-10-2007 at 12:21 PM

Nice pics, Brian....wish I had a big wide open beach like that here that blew onshore/offshore!! Can't complain, El Mirage is pretty nice : )'

BTW, love the libre buggy,,,did you get it form a distributor in the U.S.? If so, who?

and also, how are you attaching the buggies,,couldn't quite make it out in the pics (looks like the other person has to steer, right?).

Thanks.

Pete

leebrianh - 3-10-2007 at 02:54 PM

Susan, yes, that's my baby Jake. Looks lovely, doesn't he?

Pete, I bought it from Jon @ KiteBuggySpeedShop.com. As far as I know, he is the only Libre distributor in US.

I was using Libre tow hitch, which connects two buggies. It is basically a triangle metal with hook shape at the end so you can hook that ends to the other buggy's foot peg. If you need a picture of it, let me know.

Man! that was fun!!! - Brian

joecat - 3-10-2007 at 03:49 PM

Hey Dom,,, one of the guys from our group did come from New York somewhere,,,, I thought he said the bronks,,, ask Brian for contact info.. His name is Luke.

kitemaker4 - 3-10-2007 at 07:07 PM

Hey Brian

I forgot to ask how you like the new buggy?

Susan

lunchbox - 3-10-2007 at 09:05 PM

Brian, if you could post a pic of the tow hitch that would be great. Thanks.

leebrianh - 3-10-2007 at 09:07 PM

I will take a picture of it and send it to you. Check your U2U. - Brian

bugymangp - 5-10-2007 at 12:09 PM

hey nj buggiers
yea i had a good time too.
until jake ate my npw. LOL
yea i was having him chase my kite
and he sunk his teeth ripping it.
no big deal. its only a worn out npw. LOL and i patched it up.
brian.
you need to learn how to get back up wind. LOL
he thought it was my kite and buggy letting me get back up wind.
but he was wrong. its my 12yrs in the buggy that let me get back up wind in the soft sand. LOL
once the wind came up. i was gone. so far up the beach i lost sight of camp.
lets do it again real soon. i`m be there.

joecat - 6-10-2007 at 05:53 AM

I agree we should do it real soon.... I have been checking the wind everyday and it hasn't been any good...... the direction has been good but the speed just isn't there.. hopefully we will see some speed coming up soon........ I will keep you guys posted.......

leebrianh - 6-10-2007 at 09:54 AM

Yep! We will definitely do that again. I am thinking about another official club meeting next Spring and of course many more between whenever wind is good.

By the way, I swear there is a hidden motor in Glenn's buggy. Just didn't have enough time to investigate :D

- Brian

bugymangp - 9-10-2007 at 09:36 AM

hey nj buggiers
yea. lets do it again soon.
keep me in the loop.
hey brian
no i don`t have a motor on my buggy. LOL
thanks for making the shirts.

joecat - 10-10-2007 at 07:53 AM

Yo guys,,, got out this sunday in the same area where we were before,,, a few people on the beach and the wind was not that good... maybe 6-7mph. Just about to leave at 4pm and the wind changed direction and kicked in like a son-of-a- ..... I was using my 5 meter and not moving too good at all. When this wind came in people started leaving the beach, umbrellas and chairs were getting knocked over etc. I broke out the 2 meter,,, the wind was coming right down the beach heading south. I was afraid to sit in the buggy for the first few minutes,,, not being that experinced and then I said "what the helll" sat down and took off like a rocket,, going back and forth from almost the waters edge back to the street end... cool as hell......... fastest I have gone yet.... should have been there.........................

crosshatch - 24-10-2007 at 04:05 PM

(2nd time typing this...looked up BB code help and text of post went byebye upon my return...Grrrr....)

Got out to Wildwood yesterday. Didn't have a windmeter, but weather sites said it was 22mph, and it felt to me like that was about right for most of the day..maybe a little less at times.
Used 2m Brooza, and had all the power I wanted all day at my current skill level.

Wind direction wasn't perfect, but as long as I worked the kite a lot and stayed on the hardpack sand near the water, I was able to travel up and down the beach in both directions. Saw a total of 6 people, including the fishermen in trucks.
I love October.

Look out for the huge trenches dug up by the beach maintenance dudes (something about water control, I think the signs said). They're wide and deep, and zooming upon one of 'em unawares at speed would be...bad. I stayed near the water on the hardpack and was able to avoid them with no problem. (This was in the vicinity of East Cresse Avenue, where we parked... Looked it up on my map today, Joecat...sorry 'bout the confusion; I'm navigationally challenged :)

Had a great time and learned some more. My brother took some pics and vids:
pics linky

Hoping to get out there again very soon.

elkiter - 24-10-2007 at 04:50 PM

Hey Crosshatch,

Looked at your pics. Etrex looks familiar. I'm glad you having fun with it!

e

joecat - 24-10-2007 at 06:11 PM

Hey Luke,, Dont worry about the navigation problem,,, I thought at first you were by yourself, glad that you had someone with you and you had a good time. I was there until about 5:30pm and yes the wind was kicking,, Used my Beamer III 2meter and also agree it was just enough. Forearms were hurting but it was still good... I was riding mostly in soft packed sand and the bigfoot was doing its job.. hopefully this weekend will produce some favorable conditions.

joecat - 24-10-2007 at 06:13 PM

Luke, the photos are good,,, now I know where you were.LoL Where are the videos?

crosshatch - 24-10-2007 at 11:23 PM

Hey Elkiter - The Etrex is awesome! The buggy and I got flipped a good number of times yesterday. I was worried about the little yellow bugger getting smacked around, but no problems. It's a toughie!

Joecat- Will keep my fingers crossed for good wind this weekend for ya. You and Brian have me envious... I gotta get me a huge-tired buggy someday.... Christmas isn't far away. Time to start dropping hints :)

Oh, the videos are in .mov format and filesizes are huge. Have to get a converter/editor so I can post 'em.

:tumble:

leebrianh - 25-10-2007 at 09:02 AM

Looks good! Will join you next time as kiteboarding season is almost over. So, you do 2 wheeler already? me jealous :-) - Brian

joecat - 25-10-2007 at 06:17 PM

Yea, I noticed that two wheeler thing in the photo,,, I thought that was just you getting ready to flip.... So you were doing that on purpose?

crosshatch - 25-10-2007 at 07:08 PM

Not really. For a second or two I was between flipping forward and leaning back to get back to three wheels. Not sure how I held it like that for a coupla secs. Luck.

Hope I get good enough to use a seat harness soon... My arms feel like someone hit them with a baseball bat today. My normal local sessions are just static-flying, for like an hour or so usually. Buggying all day sure was a good workout.

Have you used your harness much yet, Joe?

joecat - 25-10-2007 at 07:24 PM

I have tried the harness a few times but it just doesn't feel comfortable yet,,, I assume with more time and practice it will start to fit in.. I have the same complaints about my arms and my fingers become numb after awhile of riding but its still fun... I am going to try the harness more often...

Pablo - 25-10-2007 at 07:28 PM

After a while the harness will feel natural and you'll wonder how you ever kited without one.

joecat - 27-10-2007 at 07:59 AM

Pablo did you have the same situation with your harness when you first started using it?

crosshatch - 28-10-2007 at 12:09 PM

Joecat...I hope you were able to get some buggying time in today... Looks like wind was 17-20mph w/ pretty decent skies in your neck of the woods, according to weather sites.

You are one lucky dude.

joecat - 28-10-2007 at 03:21 PM

Hey, Yes it was good!!!!!!! myself and two others were down at the point at 2nd and the beach.... Low tide and the wind was kicking.... using the two meter again,,, I hit 30 mph... 24 confirmed with gps and then I know I was going faster than that but turned over the gps to Don....... I had my first OBE.... nasty lilttle thing it was... Luckly I had on my knee, elbow pads and helmet.. I turned wrong and didn't even know what hit me,,, I was just out of the buggy dragging on the ground and my buggy went another 100 yards toward the water,,, ok maybe 75 yards. I thinking I got over confident and was taught a lesson... must have turned the kite too far ahead of the buggy and that was that... I dont think I hurt anything, guess I will feel it tomorrow,, but yes I got right back in the buggy and continued for about another hour or so... It was good.

crosshatch - 28-10-2007 at 04:54 PM

That is awesome, Joe. 24mph confirmed, huh? I knew my noob speed record wasn't safe :) :) !!! You'll be up in the 40's in no time, I'm sure.

OBEs happen so fast. I'm kinda glad I've had a few already...at least I know what they're like now. I don't think I'd enjoy them as much on a playa, though.

I'm glad you got out there this weekend. I was doing yardwork all day...Seeing the leaves blow by me in the wind had me yearning badly to be buggying again. I dragged my father with me to my static-flying spot after I was done working (he hadn't seen a powerkite before today), and he watched me fly my Blade 4.9 for a bit. When it got colder and he wanted to get leaving, he walked up near me and said, "Ok, so now how do ya get that thing down? Shoot holes in it?"
I thought that was one of the funnier questions I've heard in a while.

leebrianh - 29-10-2007 at 06:22 AM

Man~ by just reading you guys posts, I've got buggy feavor again. I need to choose between kiteboarding and buggying....... life is tough :-) - Brian

joecat - 29-10-2007 at 08:26 AM

Hey Brian, I will be away on business from Oct. 31st to Nov 7th but after that I will be ready to hit the beach again, so if your going to be around, or any of you guys,,, let me know via email or post..... The beach is only 15mins away for me... HaHa... sorry...couldn't resist/

joecat - 22-11-2007 at 08:42 PM

I have to tell ya,,, the area at 2nd Ave and the beach in North Wildwood is becoming my favorite riding place. Discovered by "Don" not too long ago, I have been there about five times now and four of them have been the best riding time I have had. Today went there again,,, this area is good for those weird wind days when the direction is no good anywhere else on the Wildwoods beaches. I was hitting 24 mph today and was doing the same this past Sunday in the same location... Its good when the tide is low or if its a North East wind.

barnes - 4-12-2007 at 03:30 PM

I was the stupid one who showed up on Sunday. I flew my kite in the light winds for awhile, and looked at the buggy tracks from the day before.

Let me know if anyone is going down to Wildwood for some cold snowy beach buggying.

joecat - 4-12-2007 at 04:37 PM

Hey Barnes,

There is a possible mini buggy bash this coming weekend,,, meaning about four guys are talking about hitting the beach in wildwood, most likely the North Wildwood location near 2nd street. Saturday and or Sunday, Check back here for details. Saturday December 8th,,,, low tide is about 1:30pm Hey Brian,,, can you post it when its for sure?

barnes - 6-12-2007 at 03:09 PM

Awesome! Keep me posted, cause I am dying for some kiting!

joecat - 6-12-2007 at 05:27 PM

hey Barnes, So far its a go. Meeting at 2nd Ave in North Wildwood about 11am Saturday.. Check out the post with Title Mini Buggy bash in Wildwood or something like that.... in events
