Home made buggy, advice please ?

Greetings to all. I am in the planing stage of building a buggy, and I was wondering if there is some mathematical formulae for the length to width ratio of the buggy? Is there a limit on these dimentions. I realise that there is a trade off between manouverability and stability in relation to the L to W ratio, and that the riders weight and size have an effect. I was thinking of making everything adjustable so I could change the handeling, and speed at witch I will have an OBE. Any thoughts or technical info will be appreciated, come to think of it, even ridiculous advice is good for a laugh.

Check out popeye's site. Theres a ton of great info there to get you started.

I've done a a lot of searching for plans and such but most of the links are dead now. There are a few plans on his site as well if i remember correctly.

the last two buggies I have built are made for speed, like on your salt flats or the beach...my front to back wheel centres are 1750mm and the rear axle length is 1640mm running on assymetric hubs with Eurotrax tyres on making the overall buggy width 2100mm, making this buggy very very stable.

Respect to you carl, you have the talent for buggy building.
Although my design is a bit different I will be able to use your dimentions and plans for comparison. This my second attempt, my first buggy, I rolled over on the beach, bending and buckling frame and wheels, as it was made from an old sack trolly. This time I am beffing things up. Popeye, I am a cad designer, and it pains me to see you working from hand drawings on a board. Your drawings are pretty simple, so I wouldn't mind drawing things up for you. That way you would know all measurements were accurate in reference to each other. Shouldn't be too much for postage for a sheet of paper, unless you have a way to print large prints that I email to you. Let me know. We gotta stick together.

Bob, that would be fantastic if you could do that for me.

If you could send me the cad file to start with, I may be able to get them to print it at work, failing that we will think of another idea.

Cad drawing is a skill I definatley havn't got I have auto cad 2005 on this puter and tried but in vain, I can draw a straight line and thats about my lot.
