sobb camping and other feedback

Just a few thoughts and comments for future reference for next year and beyond.

Firstly, we had a great time on the beach, we were only there Monday to Wednesday but had a great time cruising on Monday in the light wind with my 12.5m Blaze, and then had an awesome time on Wednesday when the wind picked up to around 15mph - even though it was coming from the North which meant I never got to cruise the length of the beach it was still great fun bombing back and forth across the width of the beach doing some big slides with my Century Great to meet some of you guys that I recognize from the forum and to meet in person, and also to catch up with some of you who I'd met before! And thanks again Lawrence for giving us a jump start to get us off the beach on Wednesday! The guys at Les Shwab sorted us out with a new battery which did the job. Hope we'll be back next year and do it again (minus the dead battery).

A couple of notes about the camping in the area. First of all, Sunset Lake 'Resort' is to be avoided at all costs. That place is a nightmare. We stuck it out 3 nights and were booked for a fourth but decided to 'flee' and find somewhere else. On one side we had the family with more dogs than sense, and spent all their time shouting at the top of their lungs at each other, with 90% of their vocab being swear words. On the other side was the guy who sat outside sharpening his knives - no idea what he used them for since the trash can was full of assorted junk food wrappers for 3 days we were there. Oh, and there was the guy cutting his logs with a chainsaw, the multiple pitbulls and other assorted savage looking animals, and (although this was more amusing than worrying), the guy driving round on his ATV with his Bud supply stacked on his handlebars. There were some very friendly full time residents who we spoke with, but some of the visitors were not the usual sort we normally run into on vacation, i.e. it was doubtful they were on vacation as well - not that we have anything against fulltime RV'ers, just this particular kind that were calling this 'resort' their home. Oh, and forgot to mention the guy and his son meticulously checking all the full-timers mailboxes with his key, just in case it might have opened some one elses.

On the otherhand, we went down to the KOA at Warrenton for our final night and stayed at the most well kept and tidy, full featured campsite we've ever seen... next year this will definitely be our first choice of where to camp!

I didn't want to put the pad down but the place IS sort of beyond sprucing up :smug:

The KOA and Fort Stevens campgrounds are extremely nice and I have to agree that I would send a friend to them rather than the Sunset Lake " resort "

They were staying up by the road the previous nights. I suppose that living downtown has hardened me to the " goings on " :saint: I have to admitt there was a lot " going on "
I would NOT recommend this RESORT to anyone with young Family. The KOA is well set for young ones. A covered pool and plenty of other options for the kids even on rain days.
