Ozone Manta 12m - is it worth it?

Hey guys,

I was wondering how good the usable wind range on the Manta I 2007 kite is. I'm about 78kg or 170lbs. I will be using this for snow and land. Will the 12m be too much to handle? I was thinking the 10m, but I have come across a local 12m Demo Manta and if the price is right, it will be hard to resist.

Should I go for it? What do you guys think?

Cheers.

Mark

Ah... I know, so many kites!!!

Baluk

from the picture in your avatar you dont seem like you are too heavy.

Usually a 10m will have almost the same low end as a bigger kite.

The bigger kites are either for heavier guys, or if you want to do longer and hugh hang time.

Don't forget a 12m will be slower than a 10m, harder to turn and make moving.

Last winter, before I switched to a Pulse 10m, I had a Frenzy 12m. I had no fun.

I had a kite partner flying a Manta 10m, we had about the same low end (Frenzy 12 vs Manta 10) but he had a faster kite.

As a very low wind kite, my partner was flying a Yakuza when the Manta was not enough. He weighs about 170 pounds. I am 180.

I've reduced my Pulse 10m for 1200$. I am going with a Psycho3 10m and later a Speed2 15m $$$$ but I won't need this one much in winter.

Buzz - Just curious, what size Yakuza was he using?

Baluk - 14-10-2007 at 04:19 PM

I'm 170lbs... so close to you.

What wind range could you take out the kites? I want a mid range kite, so thats why I'm not sure about the 12m.

Joe

his biggest yakuza he uses is a 10m, but during winter on skis, a 10m yakuza is a rocket.

he was using this size in very low winds. I dont have an exact mesure, but I guess it would be around between 6-10 knots.

Thanks Buzz - I flew a 5m Yakuza last week (thanks to leebrianh  ) and just loved the speed.

Mark

So the manta low end is maybe somewhere around 8-10 knots

The high end really depends on you. The 12m will probably be a range 5 knots less than the 10m.

I have flown the frenzy 12 in around 20knots, it's OK but when you want to launch or land, it's less fun.

Joe

yeap must be fun to fly the yak 5m.

we want a yakuza pass program !!!! :spin::spin::spin:

Baluk - 14-10-2007 at 06:50 PM

haha. Yes on the yak program!

Hmm, I was originally going for a ten metre and now two twelves popped up from no where!

I wonder if I should just get a montana when the price gets super low in a couple months, last year, the kites where suppose to be out mid nov or dec but came out after the new year, will that happen again?

bloah - 14-10-2007 at 07:38 PM
