Intermediate Kite?

Deadhead - 4-11-2007 at 08:41 AM

If I'm lucky, wife may be content for a while, once the 5m Buster II gets here. So now I gotta find something for me, with a little higher A/R than the Beamers or Blaze. Been thinking about the Ace or the Blade, but (to me, an old fart) they seem a bit extreme. As Taper said elsewehre, I'm not into jumping, and my doc has 'suggested' I stay away from buggies for the moment (might even listen to him). So I'll have to fly static for a short while. Any suggestions on what might be suitable? BTW, I"m 100 kos, and fly usually between 7-20 mph winds.

The Brooza's make a nice all around kite, they've got enough lift to get my 250lb arse off the ground, but not anywhere near as crazy as the Blades. Ozone also makes a nice mid level kite, I think it's the Cult, may be the Haka, but pretty sure it's the cult.

When you say Ace and Blade are extremes do you mean that they are extreme opposite ends of the cost and quality or are you trying to say they are both extreme kites ?

The opposite ends of quality and cost is obvious. As far as extreme goes I don't think the ace is that extreme and it flys static + scudds real well with it's consistant power.
The Blades get a bad rep and are fairly well behaved. A lot more on off with the power so they just deserve some respect. They are great for pendulam jumps as well as static.

So a cheap choice would be a 6 or 7 m Ace or a 6.5 Blade on the other end. Don't think of them as being similar or extreme though. Not now you have your basic fly skills down. I'm not sure of any foil that is designed with static flying ( and not jumping ) as it's main purpose that you could call intermediate ?
Did your Doctor say to avoid kite BLADING ? :duh:

Have you and your wife tried Revolutions ? If you are static flying they are endless fun. Most of the skills cross over to the foil. Try one at DBBB if you haven't before ! I have a feeling I'll be flying Rev's when I'm too old to get out of my lawn chair!

pssst, put wheels on the lawnchair. Call it a buggy.

Played with a Rev the other day - yep they're fun, but still prefer the foils. Can always fart around with the small ones if I have to take it easy for long. Just doesn't appeal to me tho-although must admit, I'm sitting here with the CAD going, putting wheels on the rocking chair..............

THanks for the advice on the Blade. Think I may add a smaller one (5m or so) once this is all over with.
