Crash

archkiter - 4-11-2007 at 04:47 PM

Hey Guys,

I was heading out to Sunset today with my husband and dog to do a bit of buggying. Our car was rear-ended in a rather nasty accident. All parties involved are okay and were able to walk away with only a few bumps and bruises but looks like I'll be in the market for a new buggy. My buggy was attached to a hitch on the rear of the car and took most of the initial impact. I think the side rails have been flattened. I am not sure how sound the rest of it is.

Here are a few pics from the crash....

It was rather amusing to see how the tow truck decided to deal with the buggy :frog:

So no buggying for me today
Buckle up and be safe out there peeps.

What are the chances, glad to hear everyone's ok, be thankful the buggy was out back, you know how many times people have driven around with a buggy wedged in the back seat?

On the plus side, buggy doesn't look that bad, Snowbirds got run over by a pickup truck and only suffered a bent wheel bolt. I'm sure JEllis can get any parts needed to put it back into top shape. Probably cheaper than a new buggy as well. Gotta say, Libra's are fairly tough buggies.

Glad you are OK Stace! That really bites...I hope your insurance covers the buggy.

sunset-Jim - 4-11-2007 at 06:05 PM

geeeze, what a bummer!

I would think that insurance should cover the buggy too. If nothing else, homeowners insurance. Just might be time for a new one. And with extra parts...

Really glad to hear that everybody is ok

Bummer indeed! The worst part was not getting to buggy! I looked like a nice day out there.

Glad you're OK Stace. I should think the person's insurance that caused the accident will pay for the buggy, but I'm not too sure how it works "south of the boarder".

Super Glad Everyone is OK..

Loved how the tow truck driver rigged up the buggy.. Looks like He took good care of it..

Hope Your out again soon..

DAKITEZ - 4-11-2007 at 10:12 PM

Glad everyone was ok. the person that hit you was probably trying to figure out what your buggy was then CRUNCH.

O.M.G ! :o YOU HAVE A HUSBAND :o

You may have survived the crash but the news of a husband in the picture is killing me :wink2:. :wink2:

I'm glad you are all O.K. It almost looks like your well made rack and buggy saved you a much harder hit !

Assuming the person behind you was in the wrong, I'ld be going for a full replacement + scavange your old one. Missing a day or more of good kiting is way up there on the pain and anguish scale as well !! $$

I hope you get geared back up real soon. The folks at Sunset seem so nice I'm sure you could head out and share a ride with someone !

You can always share my buggy even though it turns out you can't share my heart :spin: :saint:

You have lived through one of my worst fears when driving! I transport my buggy the same way you do and cringe everytime I have to stop!
I know here in Ma. if you hit the person in front- you owe ALL expenses!

I would drive over the buggy a few times before the insurance rep comes out to fill claim!

kitemaker4 - 5-11-2007 at 08:06 AM

Hey Stacie glad yall are ok.

I would match up your buggy to another one and see what is bent.

If you do get a new one then save the parts that were not damaged.

LOL- your post made me laugh. I do think you are right that the buggy and rack saved us from some much more severe damage. We were at a dead stop and the SUV hit us at about 55mph :o

At first glance the buggy looked ok- considering.... and then I saw it sitting on the ground and it looked alot flatter and longer. The plates where the siderails attach to the rear axle weren't pointing straight up like I think they used to, instead they were angled towards the buggy.

Hopefully I will just be able to get a new buggy and that the other drivers insurance will have to pay

Thanks for all the support guys- I hope it all works out - and soon so I can get some buggying in :spin:

Ha Ha,
I woke up with some pain last night and think I may have overdone the med's on an empty stomach

That was exactly what I was thinking when I read your post though :saint:

I knew somehow you were too good a catch to be single. Single Girls that drive a 4wd , have a well behaved shepard, bounce back from injury + KITE and look good doing it are too good to be true !

I'm happy to have made you laugh when a good chuckle was needed :D
Best Wishes and good Winds !

Sthrasher38 - 5-11-2007 at 07:27 PM

Alittle late on the glad you are all ok. But better late than never.Snowbird that was a very nice and subtle way to flirt if you gotta.Bye the way Pablos wife has Combats!! and she needs a buggy too.:saint:lol sorry pablo.

jellis - 6-11-2007 at 09:29 AM

Stace Oh my gosh! I am glad to hear you are OK, as rear enders can cause neck problems that could resurface weeks afterwards, so don't settle too quickly. I do keep buggies in stock now and will let get in touch to see what you would like to do about your buggy.

wwwwwwwooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww. 55mph is scary. I've lived near that turn off for years. I see a dozen crashes there a year. Am very glad to here you guys are ok, but... there have been many ambulance rides out of there.

I would recommend a little PT just to be on the safe side. The cervical spine can act up while rebounding from such an impact. Jon's killed many a deer driving out of Seaside and look at him.:bird:

Back to the buggy, you should get that crazy Bigfoot Jon makes. He's giving away pumpkin pies with buggy purchases made before he takes off for DBBB. You have to get your own whipped topping:frog:

Stay Well Stace and Hubby

archkiter - 7-11-2007 at 09:40 PM

Thanks guys. 55 is scary- I was shocked when I heard the driver tell the cop that he estimated his speed at 55 upon impact! (At least he was honest). After that I thought wow that buggy really did save our butts! I can see how that intersection is so dangerous though. You are coming out of the valley and just entering the wooded area and it is slightly a blind turn. I had to slam on the breaks to avoid a collision ahead of me and just as we sighed with relief from having come to a stop then BAM!

The whole thing seems a bit surreal now- especially when I think about how much worse it could have been. So what is the ultmate buggy transport crusier?- Now that they have told me that my car is likely totaled :flaming:

Bladerunner - 8-11-2007 at 08:36 AM

If the car is a write off the bug should be, no contest. Whatever you get for a new vehicle that buggy rack looks like a life saver !

Something with room to change inside would be nice in a vehicle !
