Kite monkey

Played kite monkey for an 11m Waroo today. Props to the LEI guys. Thats alot of preparation and work to get airborn and to land. Sweet kite though, once airborn seems easy to fly. Just alot different setup, launching, landing procedures than Im used to. Im sure with repetition it becomes second nature.

I ride with a few LEI riders and I try to avoid being their monkey. I do try to show them the folly of their ways by launching and landing by myself. Also, my set up and break down of my gear happens before they are even ready to fly.

The last time I rode with some LEI guys I setup rode and came back in and landed before one of the guys even had his kite ready to launch:singing: Not sure why they insist on that type of kite.

Oh, well. The joys of foils!!!

Nothing quite like self launching your own kite, then walking over while it's parked overhead to help launch others. Or simply tying it off on a log and taking a break.

I "monkey" for the guys on the beach all the time when I'm not in the bug. But the bow hybrids like a Waroo will self launch. They screw a large stake into the sand and attach the chicken loop, then walk the kite to the edge of the window and let it launch. It will just sit there, flying at the edge, a few feet off the ground, the same way a PL Twinskin sits at the zenith. Then they just walk back to the bar, pick it up and hook in.

Landing is the reverse of course, but when I see an LEI guy tap his head, I'm always happy to play catch.
