Ground Industries CONFLICT 106

firewirepl - 15-11-2007 at 04:50 PM

Anyone have any experience with this board of any GI boards? I ordered a conflict after a lot of research and just want some opinions on how it performs and last over time.

I'm a heavier guy at 205 pds and want to make sure it can handle the jumps and the rough riding.

Also, im using a blade iv 8.5, what do you think about this kite for boarding. I know its not depowerable, but I don't think it will be too bad, I can
preadjust it before it goes in the air. I was going to look into depowerable flysurfer psycho 3 10/12m or something but I alread heard you need at least 10 mph winds for it also.

Thanks guys!
JW

I love my GI board. What color cubes did you get? It makes a difference as to whether you go fast and straight or whether you want to be able to carve.

I'm more concerned about your kite than your board. Do you have any experience? Is the 8.5 your first and only kite?

firewirepl - 16-11-2007 at 11:40 AM

its my only kite but i have had experience with them before. I just want to make sure it has enough power and lift to pull me around without just pulling me off the board all the time.

USA_Eli_A - 16-11-2007 at 12:05 PM

am not a fan of the flysurfer kites. The CONFLICT 106 is a pretty rad board. It's my favorite board. If you like a wide stance and if you eating to many pies, that is the best board you can buy for kiting..:bird: TRY TO GET OUT AND DEMO SOME DIFFERENT GEAR

B-Roc - 16-11-2007 at 03:43 PM

An 8.5 blade will have more than enough power to pull you around on a board. I have a BIII 8.5 so I can't comment on the AoA adjuster of yours but I'd recommend you go low lift at first.

You do know that blades are the most lifty fixed bridled kites around?

They'll pull you for sure but as soon as you approach the sweet spot for the kites wind speed, you'll feel it want to lift and you'll definately launch if you redirect it too hard at the end of your run.

But it has a lot of float and that works in your favor. Just be careful and start slow.

Just curious - why not?

firewirepl - 16-11-2007 at 04:35 PM

yeah i didn't know if have it at full power all the time would be anooying or now. They are more lifty then the flysurferS?

Pablo - 16-11-2007 at 09:36 PM

Having ridden the BIV 8.5m, they're really quite different than the older kites, on the low power setting they're quite predictable and don't have that "gonna kill me any second" feeling. Turn up the power and they'll wake up quite nicely. They're a lot smoother than any of the previous blades as well so you can go out with more power before it feels scarry. Still not the ideal beginner kite. At first it'll feel like the kite's tamer than the old blades, that is until you look down.

ok Flysurfer kites. Positive first.
It's a nice kite, good materials, concepts are 'cool'. If flown correctly they can be fun. Probably the best auto Zenith ever!

I'm not baggin on them Butt!
-they are expensive
-it pulls too hard after the safety is used, major problem. the only one that matters
-if it deflates at all, it hangs back then you can't jump
-after jumps it'll put riders down hard and without forward speed
-I'm concerned about durability, kites with zippers??wth
-lastly, it's not easy to fly static

sorry for the negs, but i'm concerned about safety with these kites. I enjoy most kites, some are just more WORK than others.

thanks for the reply its good to know the negs and pos of all kites. I really appreciate it.

For the Gi conflict, whats up with the torsion cube system? Hows that differ then the springs that most other boards have?

Pablo - 18-11-2007 at 12:08 PM

I ride mostly at the beach, first off, cubes don't rust. While they're a bit stiff for the first couple days, once they break in the feel is sweet. Easy to change the cubes and it's a really simple/clean looking system with very little to break or go wrong.

I'm 250lbs, and I find the yellow cubes are just a hare soft for higher speed downhilling, but perfect with the kite.

USA_Eli_A - 18-11-2007 at 01:36 PM

torsion cubes are really cool. Instead of loading one spring up against the other, the cube consists of tendons the expand and contract. So the presure is 'digital'. You can feel the board push back as you ease into a turn. That eliminates wobbling:bird: and over steering. The bionic system is much lighter, I would recomend level '4 cubes' for kiting! Those are the cubes Pablo rides too! I ride level 4 all the time, at my weight of 225. I love my conflict!:cool2:

You should learn how to take apart the hanger from the truck so that you're fast at installing different cubes.

firewirepl - 18-11-2007 at 01:59 PM

how do i know what comes with the gi conflict boards, so i have to order them seperate?

USA_Eli_A - 18-11-2007 at 05:54 PM

usually level 4 cubes come in the board standard. make sure you specify what you want when you order through a dealer. It's common to have many sets of cubes and to adjust your board frequently. I'm getting settled with the 4s though. I don't think the new bionic system is in yet. If you conflict is on order, it'll probably take a bit to get it.

Mikey17 - 19-11-2007 at 01:50 PM

Just bought a 2nd hand flight light for £130! it has the previous bionics on it (not 07) and has come with green, light blue and v. dark blue cubes. what colour do you recommend for kiting with as i am an atb beginner?

USA_Eli_A - 21-11-2007 at 12:24 PM

try to find some yellow cubes, green might be too stiff

awindofchange - 21-11-2007 at 01:54 PM

You can also order in a hangar upgrade kit that comes with two of the new '08 hangars and new hardware, cubes are sold seperately. This allows you to upgrade your older GI Bionic boards to the new '08 system that is lighter and uses the newer re-designed cubes. Cost of the upgrade kit is around 25 bucks.

B-Roc - 21-11-2007 at 03:05 PM

I have the 2005 set up. Here is the GI information on the older cubes http://www.groundindustries.com/t3_fit_chart.htm

I am 145#s and ride the ProFlight. If you start at the top left and call the lightest blue cube 1, I have cubes 2, 3 and 4 (royal blue, purple and yellow). I started with yellow and like those for speed runs but did find them stiff at my weight so I dropped down to the purple cubes and find those to offer an excellent blend of speed and carve and spring.
If you are 145ish, I'd go purple on the old cubes. If pushing 200 I'd go yellow. If in doubt, get both.

I got the royal blue to ride on the street but never picked up their street slicks so I haven't riddern those cubes yet.

Mikey17 - 21-11-2007 at 03:29 PM

cheers for the info, i am about 142 lbs so purple sounds good. but i will probably go with the hanger upgrade eventually because it sounds better :cool2:

B-Roc - 22-11-2007 at 09:47 AM

If you go with the hanger upgrade, the cubes I provided the link to won't work. New hangar = new cubes. Just keep that in mind when ordering.

And if you order the old style cubes I linked to, the purples are called "Street Hard" and the yellows are "offstreet soft".

I have the GI patrol 106 and a MBS 26..
I weigh 235 pounds.

I LOVE my GI the most.. Works perfect for me out on the beach with the stock cubes..

The MBS 26 I use more for doing downhill runs and running over fallin trees..

When I go out I take the GI for me and I'll bring the mbs for my friends to have something..
