New Kite Curse Continues

DAKITEZ - 16-12-2007 at 11:01 PM

You guys all said when you get a new kite the winds stop for 2 weeks. Well, the CURSE continues. I sat at the beach all weekend looking at the perfectly flat water and the smoke from my campfire going straight up. I never got a kite out of its bag.

1oldkid - 17-12-2007 at 06:39 AM

Been there too!

When I first got my buggy and started going to the place where some friends had been going for years, everytime I would show up, the wind wouldn't! Seemed it was that way for a few months....:megan:

Take heart, it won't last much longer...;)

You could've at least gotten some of them out and gotten lines attached and stuff unless you already did that at home. That is much easier than with the wind howling. And it would be some consolation to not having any wind.:)

At least you could go camping at the beach. Here you would not have even thought about camping unless you are a complete die hard. You would have been hard pressed to get anything to burn without lots of gas to get it started.

Feeling your pain in Edmonton too Dlish! Just as well. I work for myself so it's too easy for me to slip out when it blows - but this being the last week of work before a well earned 3 week gap I think I can restrain myself. Worst part is that when it does blow, it's pack up time by 4:30.......

Sthrasher38 - 18-12-2007 at 01:36 PM

So sorry man! I had the same thing happen to me. Hey today it is blowing 25-30mph.But it is also raining real hard. go for it!

DAKITEZ - 18-12-2007 at 02:41 PM

There was no wind now its a tornado outside:thumbdown::thumbdown:

Sthrasher38 - 19-12-2007 at 12:37 PM

That's what you get for buying 20 kites at once. :singing:

The only way to lift the curse is to send one to me.
:saint:

BeamerBob - 19-12-2007 at 12:54 PM

He sent me one and now my wind stopped.

DAKITEZ - 19-12-2007 at 02:15 PM

I wonder if I need to sacrifice a kite to the kite gods to lift the curse:smilegrin:

elkiter - 19-12-2007 at 02:32 PM

I vote the Stylus to be the sacrificial kite:yes:

Use the rag flapper (npw) to send smoke signals to the wind gods with the smoke from the fire.

New kites always mean the same thing... windy and wonderful weather when you have to work, and a lack of wind the days your off. No wonder work is a FOUR LETTER WORD!!!!!

DAKITEZ - 19-12-2007 at 11:10 PM

Ya if had to chose I would burn the rag flapper. actually I would burn anyone of my kites if I could get 2 weeks of perfect wind.

BeamerBob - 20-12-2007 at 03:43 AM

Maybe you need to overload the curse and place another bulk order with Pansh.:o

DAKITEZ - 20-12-2007 at 02:14 PM

I tried BeamerBob's advise. lets see if that works. Someone looking for a Pansh send me u2u.

Baluk - 20-12-2007 at 06:20 PM

arrgh. what did you get this time!?

DAKITEZ - 20-12-2007 at 09:57 PM

its a secret

Kite gods are HAPPY and me too !

DAKITEZ - 21-12-2007 at 04:05 PM

The curse is lifted. I finally got to fly today. I took out a Ace 3.5m the spot wasn't very good, but atleast I got to fly. i will give my review later.

art_lessing - 21-12-2007 at 07:30 PM

WHAT!? no buggy review?

I had a charlie brown moment with the legend 5.5......kite eating trees suck....I have come to the conclusion that they shouldn't put trees in parks.....they should be free and clear of all obstructions...just for us!

now I must sew:thumbdown:

DAKITEZ - 21-12-2007 at 07:36 PM

I tried to buggy, but since I don't know what the heck I'm doing I just kept getting yanked out of it. After about an hour and a half of flying I went about 40 ft. in the buggy and about 400ft on my butt. I need to meet up with you guys again so you can show me how to ride a buggy.

Pablo - 22-12-2007 at 11:24 AM

It's all about the angles, start off at least 45 deg down wind so you accelerate instead of getting pulled out the side, then once you're moving you need to cut cross wind, keep the kite around a 45deg angle to start, if it's higher it'll lift you. lower and you'll pick up some good speed. If you stay heading downwind for too long on the start the kite will most likely luff and fall out of the sky. Reason for this is you're going downwind so the kite loses line tension and air speed.

So you start moving downwind, then pretty quickly cut cross wind. If you're going too much downwind the lines will be slack and the kite gutless, too much upwind and the kite will be pulling, but almost going too far forward in the window, you'll lose speed and the kite may fly out of the window and luff. Get it just right going cross wind and you'll have a good steady speed with the kite behaving well.

DAKITEZ - 22-12-2007 at 12:10 PM

Thank you Pablo for the advise. I hope to get another chance tommorrow. and I think I will try a legend or blaze instead of the ace.

Sthrasher38 - 22-12-2007 at 04:37 PM

Dan,Did your 5.5 have to be laid to rest? And I'll secound the motion for the parks being cleared for kite flyers only! And dilish I will see you sun. if the wind blows.

DAKITEZ - 23-12-2007 at 07:23 AM

BeamerBob have you had the chance to fly the 6m yet ? or has the curse not lifted yet?

BeamerBob - 23-12-2007 at 11:03 AM

No, no flight yet. I set up the lines in the living room but no wind yet. I'm hoping a gale will blow through since you ordered another batch of kites. We should get wind tomorrow. Rain today should have some wind and dry cool air behind it. The rain just stopped so tomorrow is promising. Forecast calls for 11 tomorrow. Looks like the midwest is getting blown away today. 30 + from Ohio to Michigan.

wolla - 24-12-2007 at 09:25 AM

I'm i the same boat as many of you guys... came home for x-mas, and no wind what so ever.... i dint get the chance to fly much at uni, as there aren't many people interested.. and the ones that are kite surf.. the only people i know that fly are at home.. we tend to spend hous in a pub next to a field with our kites, just waiting for a bit of wind to come... but no luck yet..

i hope some comes tommorow so i can fly my new toy..

macboy - 24-12-2007 at 10:18 AM

Now that's what I gotta find! A good field with a pub next to it!

Deadhead - 24-12-2007 at 10:48 AM

Looks like the curse has moved south - new kite, off for a few days, winds only 6-8 mph. Of course, forecast calls for 16-18 wed, 20-23 thursday, as I get back to work......

BeamerBob - 24-12-2007 at 11:03 AM

The curse is lifted! I got to fly for over an hour yesterday. I put some time in with the new Ace 6. It is a big kite, that is slow to turn. Very lifty. It was picking me up in winds not more than 10 but only 5-6 times and only a few feet. But it just gently sets you back down. Wexler was getting in the air more and he would just hover and then gently settle down. The lines are ok, but very rough if you get them wrapped up. I hope for some more winds this coming week, and then I'll do a proper review.

Deadhead - 24-12-2007 at 11:11 AM

Guess you got the wind I was hoping for................:) Glad someone is able to fly!!!!!!!!!

DAKITEZ - 24-12-2007 at 11:15 AM

the wind is blowing here today also. me and sthrasher are headed for the sod field. Hopefully we will have some more reviews later.

Taper123 - 26-12-2007 at 10:55 AM

Of course it's really windy today... I have to work!!!

But a nice looking wind forecast (if ya can trust it this far in advance) for New Years Day. I'll have to put off any kite purchases until AFTER that so I can have some wind at the beach!
