K, Finally time, there will be a Combat being sent down stateside, only question is what size? It'll be the same deal as the other tours, person who
has it is responsible for the cost of sending it to the next guy. Person with the kite is responsible for the kite until it arrives at the next
person's house. You damage it, you fix it or cover the costs of repair.
I'm thinking of a 5m, no lines or handles. I warn you now, if you're brand new to kiting you won't like it, This tour is for guys that are mainly into
buggies and speed with a bit of experience at it.
Paul B.elkiter - 4-1-2008 at 06:28 PM
How about 4.2m?
Anyhoo, either size is cool. Can you add me on the list?
Thanks,
eSecondWind - 4-1-2008 at 06:45 PM
I would like to get on the list also! Anything around 5m would be great.
Thanks Baluk - 4-1-2008 at 07:54 PM
I must say. This is one wicked kite! I meant to write a review of it when it was in my hands for a bit, but I never did and now its too late
But I'm sure someone here can review it :D It's really an awesome kite and quite stable, especially in my inland fields.
No matter what size, you guys should really enjoy it!Pablo - 4-1-2008 at 10:19 PM
Once I get a little more input on size, I'll get it sent out asap.Deadhead - 4-1-2008 at 11:09 PM
Paul, 5 or 6m sounds good with me. Add me to the list, if you would.Sthrasher38 - 5-1-2008 at 03:13 PM
4-5 meter.Pablo - 11-1-2008 at 09:34 PM
So, it's looking like the 5m will be the most universal, so it'll be leaving shortly, just need to find the first location, There was a fellow that
missed out on the brooza, so it may go there first, but currently it's looking like
Davinch
Elkiter
Deadhead
Sthrasher
I'd like to get it out monday if possible.speleopower - 11-1-2008 at 09:59 PM
Heck ya! I'd love to try a faster kite. I'm sure I can give it a good work out Please add me to the list if possible.

:wow:
I'm shocked to think you have lost faith in yourself !!! It's true Pab's wants folks who can fly to try it but you have flown plenty of kites now.
It's a big chance for you to see just what a race kite and buggy feel like !! I think he was just hoping folks would use it for it's purpose rather
than just static flying and jumping?
Cowboy Up and get back on that list !!! :wink2:elkiter - 15-1-2008 at 12:00 PM
DaVinch,
I'm second on the list.
I'd like you to send the Combat to my workplace when you're done.
I will U2U my work address - Just let me know when you need it.
Kite'll be going out tomorrow, been a little busy with work, sorry for the delay. Bigsilver, by the time you get it the weather just may have
improved, each guy's been taking a week and a bit with it, so you should be getting it in 1 1/2 to 2 months out
Paul BSecondWind - 17-1-2008 at 08:50 PM

Not enough wind to try it out, but I did get some pictures.

Love the bridal lines. Colorful, and probably really easy to organize and strighten outDeadhead - 26-1-2008 at 07:26 PM
Joe, the 3.5 is a powerhouse in the upper teens-low twenties, so I'd guess 15 to 20 would be a good range for it, maybe a wee bit less.Baluk - 26-1-2008 at 08:22 PM
Winds were only around 10mph, but I was still able to get moving along on the skis.
It felt great getting back on a fixed bridled kite (flying depower all winter) - so nice and simple.
I'll report back in once I fly it in some better winds Pablo - 29-1-2008 at 11:02 AM
10mph as you said should be ok, but underpowered a little, then again, I'm a big guy.
I love the kite from about 12-14mph all the way up to low 20's, The kite poweres up surprisingly fast though in the stronger winds, So I don't suggest
higher winds unless you're in a large area, it'll do really well off apparent speed as well, so once you get going the power just keeps building.
They seem to pull really good for their size, like a hare of brake line tension for max performance and a touch extra stability.SecondWind - 30-1-2008 at 06:16 PM
Thanks for letting me fly it Pablo!
I would like to get in one more session this weekend and then I'll send it out Monday morning.
I really loved the way it “locks in” when powered up on a run - sweet kite lunchbox - 30-1-2008 at 08:17 PM
Hey Pablo,,,is it too late to be added to the 'distribution list'? If not, then please add me to the list. If it is...I understand...my loss for
dragging my feet!
BTW, what are the list (prices) on the combats (8-9m) range?
Thanks.Pablo - 2-2-2008 at 03:22 PM
I'll throw you on the list lunchbox, after you though I think I'll cap it there, I would like the kite back some time this summer. =P
DaVinch, Yeah, they do have a tendancy of locking in and taking you for a ride. It's either a love or a hate depending on how fast you like to go.lunchbox - 2-2-2008 at 10:21 PM
Cool...Thanks Pablo...so probably late March, early April...El Mirage or Pismo here I come! Perfect testing grounds!

Thanks DaVinch!
It should be nice this weekend here in Cali. Predicted sunny in the mid- 60's.
All I really need is 10-14mph wind and I'll be a happy camper. The field should dry up in the next 2-3 of days after all the rain so...perfect.

Pablo,Or Baluk can you give me some idea of how this kite flies? What to expect? Best wind speed to fly it in? Thanks. I am going to fall in love with
a black fast kite. Ok I read back a little and got the wind speed down anything else I should know? I Am ready to try this one.I have a good field and
I have been flying lots of different kites lately and love to go fast. Snowbird this ones for you! I will let ya know how it goes. Thanks.SecondWind - 6-2-2008 at 08:28 PM

Got it yesterday morning DaV, Thank You!
Tomorrow is looking good weatherwise. Maybe I will work halfday and fly it the morning. If not Saturday is just as nice.
ePablo - 8-2-2008 at 07:58 PM
Yeah, no problem switching the order, just gotta make sure it hits all the guys on the list in a timely manner
Sthrasher, Kite flys pretty solid, due to the quick acceleration you may find it overflying and luffing in gusty winds or if you're not on top of it,
to fix this add a bit of brake line tension, just enough to get the kite to sit back a hare and settle down, You'll also get more power out of the
kite this way, but you may lose a hare of top end.
It's solid and fast For those that have flown the old Century design the handling is much the same, just more potentelkiter - 11-2-2008 at 06:10 PM

Yep, Potent is the right word. With merely a gentle breeze is enough to get the cells inflated and because some cells are closed, it retains the air
inside to keep the kite always powered up. I flew the combat shortly yesterday, with wind blowing at 6 average, and still manage to pull me on my PL.
I still want to test it in a better wind condition.
eSthrasher38 - 11-2-2008 at 06:15 PM
Are you going to go to the sod field? There is almost always good wind there. Dlish and I were there last weekend It was blowing a good 10mph. When
there was no wind everywhere else.elkiter - 12-2-2008 at 09:51 AM

I do have the kite but nothing but rain in the forcast this week.speleopower - 23-2-2008 at 06:22 PM
I"m hoping when my turn comes on this kite the wind will be blowing. The Pansh and the MBS comp 90 demo kinda sucked for me. I only got to fly the
Pansh one time in light wind and only rode the MBS comp 90 for about 4 seconds total.
Later-ScottSthrasher38 - 23-2-2008 at 07:22 PM
Sorry to hear that! I will wait until you have no wind in your forcast to send the combat that way the whole thing will be complete! Wait I know thats not funny I don't wish that on anyone. Sorry.:PSthrasher38 - 28-2-2008 at 05:36 PM
Man Beautyful day today. But no wind for me yet the Combat has not even got out of the bag yet! Hopefully soon. The next windy day work or not I am
going. Keep ya posted.Pablo - 29-2-2008 at 09:36 AM
Well, the idea's a demo, not a let it sit in the bag, so if you have to wait a bit for wind, then wait. That's why it's a shorter list for now. So
everyone can have a proper go and I still get my baby back before summer's over.
Glad to see people getting along with it.
PaulSthrasher38 - 29-2-2008 at 02:40 PM

98.0 defects on the knee. sod farm here I come.Sthrasher38 - 16-3-2008 at 08:11 PM
My God! Snowbird when you told me to buck up and that I was ready for a race kite I belived you. Well, I went across the field twice with it. Full
speed both way's once you get that kite down and dropped in.:wow: That was enough for me!:wow: Race kites are like pablo said for experienced kiters.
That thing had some grunt! and was way to fast for me. I thought I wanted to go fast. I don't know what fast is! Awesome kite! Thanks Pablo for the
chance to try it is going to Deadhead tomorrow. I just kept hearing in my head you guy's saying it didn't wake up til around 15-17 mph. Well wake up?
It must have been up all night!! It was 25- 30 today and I'll tell ya what that kite may only say 5m. But it is as long as my 6.4 it's a big 5.
Different than anything I have ever flown.Pkd. the inlets a different just like the brooza I got to try more my league I think. Once the kite is full
it stays full. I could go on forever with just a few min behind it. To sum it up: Not for the weak at heart! And you better be ready to go FAST!! What
a blast We had today! 5 hrs of kiting my longest day yet. and with no harness I think my arms are longer also. I am wiped out and am going to bed.
Good night. And happy kite dreams to all!:saint:SecondWind - 17-3-2008 at 06:11 AM
That's great you finally got to fly it Strasher!
It's a fast kite :evil:Sthrasher38 - 17-3-2008 at 03:35 PM
Yea it was a blast! I just need more time in the seat to be able to really enjoy the speed it can produce. Also first time with a race kite 5.0 Combat
in 25-30 mph was pushing it. But I like that! I just am not ready for it yet. And I did learned to respect first. know what you can handle to be able
to enjoy. Try pushing limits when you are comfortable with it or you'll get hurt. I don't have a problem admitting that. I'll tell ya what, Give me
5-6 more months in the bug and I'll be getting a race kite!! You also need lots of room to fly.because moving fast dosen't give much time for anything
else if you run out of room. At the sod farm with the wind blowing in the direction it was cut the field in half so before I could really get it
locked in it was time to start slowing her down and turn around. So in time race kites will give me something more to look forward to in the kiting
world! I love to go fast. Thanks Pablo for the chance to try the 5.0 Combat!Sthrasher38 - 20-3-2008 at 05:07 PM

Was going to give it a go today, but something tells me a 5m Combat in 29 gusting to 40 wouldn't be a good thing. So I think I"ll take the suggestion
and keep it for another week - maybe things will calm down.Sthrasher38 - 23-3-2008 at 09:19 AM
29-40 No, not a good idea.speleopower - 23-3-2008 at 05:06 PM
If possible I would like to get it at the last week of April. I can move down a notch in the list if I need to.
I only got 1 time to try the Pansh because I was at work during the times of good winds. I'd like to be off work and on vacation for the next demo.

Ok, I'll be looking for it. Can't wait to give it a go! I need a faster kit for ATB riding.
A couple weeks ago some younger guy jogged up beside me while I was just slowly going by some people on my ATB. We stopped and he was asking
questions and seemed very interested. He is from Russia and was here in the US doing some wrestling type stuff. We talked for a bit then he said-you
wanna race? We'll go 2 blocks. I was like sure ok no problem but I'm pretty fast. He replied "ok, no problem I'm out running anyway so let's go,
I'll even give you a head start". We then went...ready, set, go...I took off and a couple seconds later he took off.
I'll be a son of a gun but the guy smoked me!!!!!!! He caught up to and passed me before the fist block. When we stopped he was smiling and he said
"wait a second I have to take these 10 pound weights off my ankles":o Crap that guy was fast :o:o:o:o:o:o:o
Turns out he does Freerunning in Russia. If you haven't seen it check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4xmTQ-eUKE

The kite looks fantastic. I think I'm going to like it.

I know TDMC96 has been trying to get a hold of Pablo for a while now. He is looking to pick up a combat as well !
Is there another source for these kite in North America ?
First impressions
speleopower - 25-4-2008 at 05:45 PM
I got the kite and had to wait 5 hours before I could get to the beach after work!!!! I was dying.
When I did get to the beach I unrolled the kite and my Blade IV 4.9. I ended up using the line set off of my Blade for the Combat with no line length
changes.
I'm always a bit nervous launching a new kite for the first time and was pleasently surprised with the launch. Unfortunately the wind was dying off
in the late afternoon. Maybe just less than 10mph. The kite climbed up and seemed like it was going to overfly the window. I backed it up some and
found the line set from the Blade was just about perfect.
The tide was low and I jumped on my ATB board and went for a ride. The kite handled very well and should be wonderful in higher winds. The only
problem I had was the wind was pretty light and the kite wanted to out run me and overfly the window off to the side. When the wind died off some
more the kite stalled the lower wing and folded in on itself. I was able to recover quick enough to keep it from bowtieing. But this was in light
wind. I don't know how light but I ended up having to walk about a block back to my street because I could no longer move on my ATB:o
All in all I"m pleased with how the kite handled and hope to get it out in stronger winds. It also looked sharp in the all black color. If the
bridle lines and trim pieces were dyed black as well it would be a very slick looking kite.
ScottSthrasher38 - 25-4-2008 at 07:21 PM
I knew you would like it. Wait til you get it in about 15-17mph wind It's fast. And pulls hard. Let us know how it goes after you add a little more
wind.speleopower - 26-4-2008 at 06:52 AM
I can't wait to try it out in stronger wind. After thinking about the flight the only issues I had are 1)wanted to overfly the window-I had to
control this with the brake lines, 2)easy to bowtie. Not sure if this is just lack of inexperience with the kite or lack of wind or a combo of both.
I hope we get some good strong winds because I want to hit the water with the kite.
ScottSthrasher38 - 26-4-2008 at 08:12 AM
I never had any problems with it trying to bow tie But It is fast and does shoot right over the zenith if you don't use brakes. But once dialed in
it's a puller. Enjoy.Baluk - 26-4-2008 at 08:16 AM

speleopower - 27-4-2008 at 04:00 PM
tridude-No that's not Cocoa!!!! It's Cocoa Beach.
City of Cocoa is on the mainland and is not affiliated at all with the City of Cocoa Beach!!! City of Cocoa is ghetto and has lots of meth head/crack addict types. Cocoa Beach just has crazy kite and
surf junkies.
Well, this afternoon the wind picked up to 15+ out of the SE with 2-3 foot waves. I did it and went surfing with the Combat. Unfortunately my
photographer was at her house so no pictures. I don't recommend the Combat for water use. It was fun and I would use it again for something
different. It just did not have the grunt the Blade IV 4.9 has.
On flat smooth water where it's high speed would come into play then it might be a different story. I did get some fun jumps and a couple waves with
it. All in all it flew and handled the higher wind nicely. I did find even in higher wind if you detension the lines quickly it will bowtie/flip
easily. This trait is the one bad habit that is going to put me off this kite. It's always the lower to the ground wingtip that folds in. It
happened one time after I landed from a jump about 20-30 yards from shore. I thought well this sucks I'm going to have to swim in and hopefully get
close enough to shore to let go of the handles and hope the kite sails through the air far enough to land on the sand.
I still hope to get at least one good ATB board session in before I mail the kite out.

Who's next on the Combat tour?
I got a chance to ride the kite for a few hours this morning on my ATB in about 15mph wind. I don't like the kite. :o
It was very very fast but had a tendancy to bowtie if you let up on the line tension quickly. I ended up doing a 15' plus long knee slide when it
bowtied. I also got lofted a couple of feet up while trying to quickly stop. Then crashed when I hit the soft sand.
The kite is probably much better suited to buggy riding than ATB riding.
It is fast. I got going as fast as I wanted to go on the ATB and I felt like I was still accelerating. It felt like I was on the verge of speed
wobbles. I guess I'm old and just want to cruise at a non breakneck speed.
It is a sweet looking kite in the air. If I had some spare money I would get one of these for high speed runs and for something different to fly.

Hey Scott, I believe I'm next on the list...after me, I think it goes back to Pablo.
I'm not really a speed junky myself but I am curious to see how well it goes upwind.
I'll u2u my address.
Thanks.speleopower - 1-5-2008 at 01:03 PM
