Solar Panels are not on lakebed

frangram - 10-1-2008 at 01:20 PM

As a member of the Ivanpah advisory committee I have been updated on any proposals and asked for input. Ivanpah has been divided into 3 zones. Zone 1 is the dry lake bed area and all
proposals are to keep the lake bed for the use of non motorized activities. The solar panel energy farm is proposed for the west side of 15 up on the hillside.
Some members of the committee who are NABx participants were asked to update NABx at last years event by BLM and were never given the time to present these proposals to the group.

Solar panels no... land values? Look out!

Lack-O-Slack - 10-1-2008 at 05:38 PM

Greets, gang!

Okay, so we were't informed of the details of this proposal, just like no Americans were informed of the Omnibus Appropriations Bill that set off the land grab thru the passage of the FLREA, or Recreation Access Tax (RAT).

These things are changing, behind closed doors, without public participation, and that is what is wrong with the whole, stinking deal.

Now think about this: Cargo airport in the Primm Valley, taking out Jean and Roach. Solar power plant taking Ivanpah, west of the 15. What's going to happen to land values in the Primm Valley when all of this development takes its final form? Where will the maintenance and service people live? Where will they park? Where will they buy toxic fast food and Pampers for their spawn, and who will be sitting on the available tracts of "wasteland", ready to sell it off for HUGE profits?

It's gone, I tell ya... better enjoy it now... ask the folks who used to live in the pristine deserts of Palmdale, or Victorville, or even sleepy little Adelanto... seen the tract homes out there, lately?

So, where they put the solar panels makes not a bit of difference... it's PUBLIC land that's being sold to PRIVATE ENTERPRISE, and the so-called "managers" do not have the right to do so... not without putting it to a voters' initiative.

Why, one must ask, do all these bills and legislative maneuvers take place at midnight sessions in Washington D.C., or get tacked onto "must pass" budgetary enactments?

Hello-o?

Fran and I were there last year for the presentation and I have all of the future plan info for the area. I was prevented from making the presentation to the group last year @ NABX. I guess it was deemed to be a downer and would bum people out.
Besides the solar farm, there will be air traffic over the playa and I have flight plan data as well as noise levels to be expected in a cool animated graphic.
this will surely happen as the airport at jean is going to happen.
Say goodbye to Jean and Roach for future fun as well.
On the California side (Ivanpah) at least the BLM is involving the "owners" of the land (US taxpayers) to get involved. Las Vegas cargo needs = loss of recreational land use for us.
If there is anyone interested in getting involved instead of just #@%$#!ing and moaning, please do so. It seems odd that two of the members of the TRT (technical review team),
Fran and Jason, live on the east coast, not in CA or NV. WE are willing to get involved.
There are many issues to be dealt with here to protect our continued enjoyment of Ivanpah, please get involved in a constructive manner.

Thanks to all for the info. We will keep our eyes on this.

I can't help but think this is the beginning of the end for us though. Who needs a bunch of pesky land sailors around when you can just say no?

Additional information has been asked for. I will be adding a page to the web site to keep us informed as we learn more.
