Enter BizB... Ohio's newest power kite fanatic.

I just bought my first traction kite after 2 years of being hooked on stunt kiting.

Every year, there is a kiting 'event' (not a competition) at Maumee Bay State Park which is where I got hooked. I stumbled upon the event one year when I took my kids to the park for a swim-day. While we were walking around, some old guy asked my daughter, 3 years old at the time, why she didn't have a kite in her hand. Since she didn't have a good answer (she just shrugged) he built her a sled kite and gave her some line. Everyone else there was as nice as that old guy.
The next year, we went back and I bought a cheap delta. Then, a week or two later, I went to a local kite/flag shop and picked up a new-tech M80.

I've been reading about traction kiting online for the past 2 years while learing to fly a 2 line kite.

Wednesday of this week, I pulled the trigger and bought a Beamer 3.6 as my jump start into traction kiting.

I'm not sure how I'll use it just yet, but I know I'll use it often.

I like the idea of the doomwheels, but they are kind of scary looking. I'm an old wood-pusher from back when Tony Hawk was a long-haired punk doing "freestyle" demos, so the idea of the ATB was my first thought. But, then, living so close to Lake Erie, it would be a shame to not at least try kiteboarding, right?

For now, I'll be scudding and learning at MBSP... until I feel comfortable. Lord knows I don't want to be listed in the traction-kite-accident-database (right away).

My initial contribution to the entertainment of the members here is this little 6 meg video of me flying my M80 with no wind. VIDEO

Glad to hear more peopel are getting into power kiteing. Just take your time and get used to what your dealing with. Keep your head about you and you will be fine. Before you know it, you will be looking for your next bigger kite just like the rest of us.
