looking for a trainer kite

Hi. I'm looking for a trainer kite for my boyfriend. He's a beginner, 6 feet tall, & 185 pounds. He'll be practicing in the windy desert and at the beach. Eventually, he'd like landboarding. Any ideas on a good starter kite for him?

For land boarding I would recommend the Ozone IMP Trainer. This is a 3 line kite that comes already attached to a control bar with a leash. This kite was designed for snow kite training and works perfectly for land boards as well.

If you want to venture a little more seriously then I would suggest looking into the HQ Scout (formerly named the Beamer TSR series). This is a full 4 line kite with control bar that is awesome for the land board. It isn't really considered a trainer kite but it is more of a kite that you can use long term. With a trainer you may outgrow it and eventually want to get a kite like the Scout anyways so it may be better financially to purchase the Scout now and bypass the trainer. With the Scout, it is a full fixed bridled power kite so your boyfriend will want to learn in lighter winds to start out with but it is very easy to learn on this kite...probably just as easy to learn on the Scout as it is on the trainer.

I suggest something in the 3.0 to 4.0 meter size to start out with. This size kite will be easy to fly in the lighter winds for learning but will also have excellent power for the board in the stronger winds.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the TSR / Scout as a good option. It sounds like you get some big winds so a 3m may be a good way to go. This can then be his high wind kite as he grows.

Thanks for the help! The Scout 3m looks like great!
